Less is more... Arrival and Generations would be better...

I don't have anything against Steve Augeri... I still rate Arrival as one of best Journey's albums, love some songs on Generations, while Red 13 is big dissapointment for me (aside of Walking Away From The Edge)...

However, after long thinking, I think that Arrival and Generations would be better albums if they had only 10 songs each.

In my humble opinion, Arrival would be better without All The Things, Loved By You, Livin' To Do, Live And Breathe and We Will Meet Again, with following track list:
Higher Place, All The Way, Signs Of Life, World Gone Wild, I Got A Reason, With Your Love, Lifetime Of Dreams, Nothin' Comes Close, To Be Alive Again and Kiss Me Softly.

Even with weaker songs than Arrival, Generations would be better album without Believe, In Self Defense and Gone Crazy, with following track list:
Faith In The Heartland, The Place In Your Heart, A Better Life, Every Generation, Butterfly (She Flies Alone), Knowing That You Love Me, Out Of The Harms Way, Better Together, Beyond The Clouds and Never Too Late.

What do you think?

Arrival could have been slimmed down. Absolutely. I find myself skipping certain tracks to hear the ones I like most. Arrival could have been 10 tracks and they could have released another cd a year later with some rockers added.

A lot of people don't like Red13. It's not what I'll play everyday but its cool for change of pace.

Generations, oh boy, don't get me started on that one. Very rushed, bad production, people singing lead that had no business doing so.

I'd keep the Augeri & Castronovo tracks and dump everything else. Ok, the ZZTop Ross song could be a bonus joke track.

For what it is Gone Crazy isn't bad but it sure screws up calling that a Journey record.

If they do put something out again, let's hope they try for some quality.

That's the one thing all previous albums had.

Yes, it sure does.
Just as much as "Baby I'm Leavin' You" screws up calling Trial By Fire a Journey record.
I'm really not sure that they understood the term "BONUS" track when they were slipping that one in.

"Livin' to Do" is the best song on "Arrival". It was also the highlight of the show I saw in 2001, in my opinion (and also the local guy who reviewed it for "The Indianapolis Star").

Man, I respect your opinion, but for me this song is boring...

That tune has some of Neal and Jon's best playing in years, plus the message of the song really hits home. One of my favorite Journey tracks of all time.

I don't feel the same, but it might have something to do with me not thinking in english... I do understand english language but don't really think much over meaning of lyrics when I listen to music...

The song is about living life to the fullest while we're still here instead of wasting it away with meaningless things. Even besides that, I love the music also.

I think the term meaning'less is relative...but the song definitely says get off your ass if you're feeling sorry for yourself. My grandfather used to say 'Anyone who hates this life is nuts'. It's true, enjoy what you can, while you can.

Life is great, but I wish I'd have more time available to give proper listening to all cd's in my collection...

The message in every song is Christian related, especially on Generations...

Well, maybe not all, but most. "Gone crazy" could mean gone to the dark side...who knows?

Good point...and I believe Herbie made a similar comment years ago. I will add that I felt that even with the added rockers after the fact, Arrival was too ballad heavy....as was it's shitty predecesor, TBF.

The above albuim listing for Arrival is ok, but I would have traded Kiss Me Softy (which I don't really dig) for Livin To Do and We Will Meet Again. In fact, LTD and WWMA are 2 of the strongest songs on Arrival. it would be a shame to not have them.

As far as Generations is concerned, I personally feel that there were too many non augeri tracks to be able to judge it as a coessive journey release. I thought In Self Defense was a shitty song the first time around, the recent release only confirmed my original assessment. Gone Crazy is crap...if I wanted to listen to Bad ZZ top, I would have recorded their Rock Honors performance. I for one, have always considered twinketoes to have a very average voice....and for that reason, Every Generation is a very average song.

If it were up to me to improve Generations, I would have included all Augeri tracks, shitcanned In Self Defense, Gone Crazy and Every Generation. I would also have prefered to hear Augeri sing Never Too Late...and would have left A Better Life as a Deen-sung bonus/b-side track.

Generations was a piece of shit. A kind soul sent me one of the giveaway ones, and that sucker messed up my computer!

That's because you don't have Zone Alarm installed to ask if you're sure before installing "enhanced" stuff from music cd's...

I disagree... It was "our song" for me and my first serious girlfriend...
My Arrival cd was at her place, so after we've broke up, I decided to leave it to her, and get myself another one...

You just cut all of my favorite songs from Arrival!

Agree that Generations has a lot of cr*p. Reminds me of the second Bad English CD...rushed and put out on the street as the band dies.

Damnit Dave! That bug freaks me out. I kept trying to shoo it away.

I like all of Arrival. Generations = bad. Knowing That You Love Me is the only song worth listening to IMO. For no other reason than I like the vibe. It's different and certainly didn't belong on that album!

There's like 2 songs on GENERATIONS that I even somewhat liked. I think that album was the biggest disappointment.

Not even near as big dissapointment as Red 13.
From Red 13 I only like (a little) Walking Away From The Edge...

Agreed - Red 13 sounds very 'rushed'. Dean's drum playing sounds sloppy too.

Dead 13 is crap...I would take a 100 generations, as bad as gen was, over just one Dead13.

Simply put, the worst thing Neal Schon has ever touched, save for Abraxas Fool.

The production on "Red 13" is even worse than "Generations". That being said, I love "The Time" and "Walkin' Away from the Edge", the former having some great playing by Neal, in my opinion.
