Iced Earth has a reputation for putting on a killer live show and I believe it from some of the live footage I've seen of the band.

Fine, but BLOWN OFF STAGE?
No fucking way. He may have liked them better, I might accept that, but "blown off stage" refers to something much more than personal preference. It's the phrasing of the question here that makes that answer implausible.

Van Halen blew away Black Sabbath on their first tour. Unanimous conclusion of many who attened that tour. Even Ozzy & Iommi said that.

That was with Ozzy and the band was farting through the motions at that point. Totally different story. Heaven and Hell/Black Sabbath with Dio this tour are amazing. Absolutely thunderous, heavy live set. No one is "blowing them off the stage".

One I remember, and not saying they are a better band was Waysted with Danny Vaughn opening for Iron Maiden in 1986 or 87. Waysted were allowed to use a pyro blast in their set and were terrific. Not saying they were better than Maiden that night (that's all tall order), but their set certainly was memorable.

I saw 7th Heaven blow Europe off the stage at The House Of Blues. The guys from Europe even peeked their heads out during the show check them out.

You are correct on that. I just bought the Heaven & Hell DVD and I must say the band sounds better than I've ever heard them and Dio still gets it done. He sounds fantastic for 60+ (some say 65!) . Geezer Butler is one motherfucker on bass by the way. Just fills out the sound perfectly when Iommi solos.

Lynard Skynard -- Peter Frampton. Before the plane crash...
Frampton was complete toast on stage, and was being booed (hey.. Philly... gotta love Philly fans). Skynard, on the other hand, was on FIRE.

Foghat really blew BTO apart at last year's Southern Ohio Chilli Cook-Off.
I heard Journey's headlining this year.. they better be ready to rock, I hear Blue Oyster Cult is opening and they're bringing their A game.

I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd a few years ago with Deep Purple and Ted Nugent. Nugent opened, followed by DP, and then Skynyrd. I had never seen them live before but they totally kicked everyone's ass in the place.

As much as I love Dio he was having a pretty spectacular off night similar to that on the dire Holy Diver Live DVD (although that was the last night of that tour I believe). In counterpoint Tim Owens was incredible and what should have been a vocal tour de force for both bands ended up with the old dog learning some new tricks.
Still love Dio though and would see him anytime although I would forever be dubious about the condition of his voice before hand and hopeful for a good show. Same could be said about Rob Halford these days. Thankfully when I saw him with Priest on the reunion tour he was insanely good (I was front and centre) unfortunately on the DVD showcasing the same tour he was no-where near the same league, the should have added some studio magic to the final mix. Typing this has made me consider a similarly aged Steve Perry. I wonder if it would be hit and miss for him also should he ever return to live performance?

As much as I love Priest and The Metal God, he REALLY needs to do something about his stage presence these days. He looks like a robot on stage. No presence at all anymore.

Agreed. He spent much of the show planted centre stage and bent over. I wonder if he was atrophying due to repetitive strain!

Rob has to take that outfit off he's been wearing. It looks like it weights an awful lot.
Also, I think he's bent over (fill in joke here) because it looks like he's reading a teleprompter.

Halford was literally bent over facing the stage and for the most part had his eyes closed. I've heard it stated that he has to adopt this stance to hit the notes he at one time reached with ease. He did look like he was straining but that might have been the weight of all that leather. Ri.dic.ul.ous!
