OT--concerts where two bands are totally different

Postby mikemarrs » Fri Oct 12, 2007 6:50 pm

have you ever went to a concert where two bands are not in the least bit alike?

i saw skid row with sebastian bach in '91 and the band that opened was chris cornell and soundgarden badmotorfinger era.plus alice in chains opened for warrant a few months before that.just a few months later when nirvana hit all these 'bands' suddenly wanted nothing to do with hair metal and took their credibility way too seriously.anything the glam bands did they did something the exact opposite way.

Yeah, I saw After the Fire (of Der Commisar fame) open for Van Halen in 1982. Weird.

Interesting...I can't imagine hardcore Skynyrd fans liking Tramp at all.

In 1976 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City The Outlaws opening for Queen! I felt so bad for them by the second night of three nights in a row the word had got out that the opening band sucked and if anyone was sitting in the house it had to be two people and a mouse in the corner Most of the Queen fans were at the bar in the lobby. Oh joy at that time the drinking age was 18......

Sarah Harmer opened for Great Big Sea and it was oddly.
I like em both but it didn't seem a good match up.

I saw Metallica with The Cult opening. To me that seemed very weird.

All around weird show, almost the whole stadium rushed to the front. The security guards just gave up. Crazy.

A few years back, country artist/slide guitarist Leroy Parnell opened up for Blue Oyster Cult.

Sad part was, Leroy sounded a lot better.

Now that pairing doesn't seem so odd to me. Rush is probably a big influence of the guys in Primus and they are both groundbreaking bands in similar genres.
