I love the disc, but have only listened casually to it in my car. I knew that some of the other members sang tunes on it, but after recent discussion here I popped it back in to pay much closer attention to it. Guess I hadn't realized that almost half the songs were sung by guys other than Steve A! Again, I had just listened casually to it while driving, so now I'm realizing how much many of the other guys have a very "Perryish" quality to their voice, including Jon and Neal (in overall tone, but not phrasing). Nothing like Steve A or Deen at all, but their voice just goes well with the Journey sound, kinda like the raw material is there -- it just doesn't clash.

Deen's songs I guess I didn't realize were Deen until I read the discussion here and then read the vocal credits on the CD insert. The song that mainly sticks out like a sore thumb to me is "Goin Crazy" w/Ross -- NOTHING like Journey... haha! I also know many people here are not fans of "Self Defense", but I think it's a pretty cool song.

Also didn't realize there was a video on the disc, and watched it when I popped it into my PC.

That tune sounds like Van Halen with ZZ Top vocals.

They should be embarrassed

It was rushed and only happened 'cause Augeri got tired on sitting around between concerts.

To me, the only listenable songs are the ones SA and DC sing on.

JC is fooling himself thinking anyone wants to hear him, oh NS the same.

The guitar drowns out the vocals in most songs.

All this aside, I do like TPIYH and Never Too Late alot. The others not so much.

A Better Life is good but too repetitious. Again, rushed.

No wonder they gave it away.

There was really only one problem with everyone, other than Augeri singing on "Generations"...None of the other guys can carry a freakin' tune! Other than that one little minor detail, they all have great futures as front men of Journey!

Every Generation was actually a pretty decent track. Of course all the Augeri tunes were great. But let me tell ya-if ya got the boys over drinking beer and playing cards dont-I repeat DONT play BUTTERFLY. Good song, but not a man's man song.

That's what I mean about Generations. This track had potential to be better if they'd let someone else sang it.

My preference of the two available vocalists would be Augeri but Deen could've as well. Sorry, JC is ok for backup but imo not lead.

Hmm... Gotta say I didn't see that at all. I didn't hear anyone out of tune on the disc. If you'll point some places out, though, I'll definitely go back and listen. But would Neal even tolerate anyone being out of tune on a recording? I've heard he has perfect pitch, and it would probably drive him nuts...

Deen is just as good a singer as Steve.

I'll give you the Deen versus Augeri argument. For me, it ends right there. Anyone who thinks Schon, Valory, or Cain EVER belong singing lead on ANYTHING with the name Journey on it needs their head examined! There is a reason that none of the aforementioned guys were EVER heard singing lead on ANY of Journey's hits!

I watched people walking around at one concert all literally stop in their tracks when Deen opened his mouth. The man can sing! Too bad he isn't a front man because they are auditioning everyone when the guy they should be talking to is on the drums. Then again, no, they'd have to can him after six months and then they would need a drummer and a singer.

Deen doesn't want the job and I think he's okay just singing a song or two during any given set. I don't think his voice would hold up for more than a few shows anyway.

Same here -- people were just open-mouthed when Deen started singing during the Journey/Def Lep concert several months back. I've also heard the same as you -- that Deen's voice doesn't have a lot of staying power. Again, I've only read that on another message board, and have no idea if there is any truth to it. I did notice in Steve A.'s interview w/Andrew (and from Neal's comments) that Deen did help Steve out at times during the show -- took a high note for him or something.

I really grew to like Steve A's voice for what it was --- perfectly suited for the Journey sound, but also having a character of its own which I really enjoy.

I've heard muchly of Ross's tune though I've yet to actually hear it.
I love different, I'm guessing I would give thumbs up to this tune.

Not a bad song -- just sounds as far away from a Journey song as you can get. Really kind of a novelty to me. I think the other comment summed it up well -- like Van Halen with ZZ Top vocals... :)

I was listening to Arrival today - Steve's voice was at it's best on Kiss Me Softly, but I grew to love it no matter what he sang. Arrival was such an upbeat album and I thought TBF was rather melancholy. Now when is he going to release the solo stuff????

From what I've heard, Deen does not want to be out in front, he has a stage fright issue or something like that. He is ok behind the drums, but wants no part being out front.

I may be in the minority, but I really like the Arrival CD. Generations, not so much......

I believe I read him saying that in his interview w/Andrew. Can't blame him -- like he says, he's a drummer, and quite a good one!
