if we had only known.....but I was pretty into the whole event anyway and I don't think I could have been any happier.

it was a dream come true for me to have JSS and Journey together and I am SOOOO thankful to have seen it 10 TIMES!!!! I would liked to have seen it 1000s more but what a ride while it was goin on! amazing.

Jeff, you brought Journey to a new level, quite possibly pushing to ESCAPE area heights, given the chance, and I guess it just scared the doodoo outta them. hehe

hmm... I saw JSS in concert in Ft.Worth, and his voice didn't sound this "Perry'ish" at all?!?! I wonder if they could be putting his voice through an fx box to model the voice? Before you proceed, I have one myself and you can tweek it to make your voice sound completely different. wow...he sounds amazing in this video.

All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!

I gotta agree with you on this...this is an outstanding performance...and, if Im correct, this was a one off gig that was well after the "regular" tour ended.

Texafana, the thing here is, Jeff, within the context of Journey, Im sure felt a big responsibility to try to be faithful to the original recordings. I believe I read your review of his solo show in Fort Worth...Jeff probably doesnt feel that he now has to be so on track with the original recordings and uses more of his "own" voice while hes performing. He even wrote about it....I think on this board..about how he had to learn to use his "head" voice rather than his "chest/stomach" voice when tackling Journey tunes with Journey.

Again, I was at the same show as Texafana, and couldn't have had a better time. The JSS band was fantastic. I'm sorry a better time wasn't had by Texafana, but I just can't imagine why. I was looped though, maybe that's it.

I have to admit, I don't think I've witnessed a more versatile voice than JSS in recent years. I still prefer the edgy rockin JSS over anything else.

Now don't do that, we're not a bunch of koolaid drinkers. I'm sure Jeff can handle any constructive criticism, If you like his edgy rockin side, and weren't happy with some of his song choices on this mini tour, so be it. But he's got to play to the majority. He mixes it up and gives everybody a little of everything. Wow, an artist that actually reads what his fans like! Actually when I first became a fan, I was more into his edgy rockin side too......still am, but the more you delve into his massive catalogue the more sides you see. Melodic, rockin, funky, and motown (killer motown).........and he does them all very well, you don't have to look to 4 different artists for it.

Come back and read these posts in six months, he'll have won you over by then.

Oh I agree. Jeff can handle constructive criticism. I've known him for 5 years now and he knows I prefer the "harder" stuff. He has no problem with anyones opinion. There are some people who freak out if you say anything negative about their favorite singer or band. To me, if it's said in a constructive manner then I don't see why people get upset over the opinions of others.

With all due respect, any Perryesque inflections are manufactured at best. At worst, they're a blatant rip off of the true Voice, Steve Perry. I'll take SP's past, middle, and today anytime over this....

I know he was just doing what he was hired to do. I also know that he hoped to do more, in his own voice, but those block heads wouldn't let him. At the same time, I don't see how anyone can ever be compared to SP. It was more than his voice. He poured his literal heart and soul into every song he sang. When you hear them, whatever emotion is being conveyed at the moment draws you in and never lets go. That's what makes him great. That's why every time the word Journey is mentioned the first person you think of is Steve Perry. You don't think of all the singers that came before and after because there was no before and after. His voice was the third ingredient combined with Neal's guitar and the songs. The songs as wonderful as they are wouldn't have been what they are today without it. They know this. Otherwise, they wouldn't keep looking for time in a bottle.

They should end it now or go out in glory, ala, one final tour with SP and be done with it. (NOT SAYING THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN THOUGH. JUST EXPRESSING THE HOPES AND DREAMS OF MYSELF AND A COUPLE OF DEAR CLOSE FRIENDS.)

The only part of your post I agree with is....yes, there is only 1 SP and there will probably never be another like him. But I'm not blind/deaf to the talent of other artists out there either. I've seen JSS perform live a few times in the last month and seen lots of footage of him with Journey and the inflections are definately not manufactured. The guy actually sings with a helluva lot of passion and emotion, just like Perry. If you don't see it, I'm sorry, your loss. Do I want him to look or sound just like Perry.....not at all. And believe me this is coming from a major Perryhead, but while you're/we're waiting for Perry I'll be damned if I'm going to not enjoy the talents of JSS.

Most good artists rip off the greats of generations previous to theirs to some extent. Perry ripped off Sam Cooke as well. What's the difference?

The difference is they both established themselves as true rock and roll icons in their own right. I just don't see that in JSS. I also get tired of seeing JSS or anyone else for that matter being put on the same plane as SP. It's kind of like all those AI clones. They touch the notes, but they don't touch the heart. But again, to each his own.

I was at this show, and I can say that there was nothing 'manufactured' about the voice you hear on the youtube. It was Jeff doing what Jeff does best... being the 'vocal chameleon' that he is. I do believe he went to great lengths to try to sound like SP on this song, and I kinda think it was unnecessary. He would've sounded just as awesome with his own signature sound. Either way, I'm really glad we got to experience Jeff singing WYLAW, it's such a powerful and moving song, now sung by 2 of the most incredible singers out there!!!

I have to agree with Deb, only with me it was the melodic solo Jeff that I preferred and then now all of a sudden I can't get enough of the edgier rocking Jeff and Talisman is blasting away on the iPod. I consider the oldies cover material the gravy - the voice I love doing songs I remember from some very fun times, how much better can you get than that!

Definitely keep posting, I'm relatively new and you'll get to know who is who and what is what and you'll find that opinions fly and rebuttals fly and it's really a blast. I'm sorry I didn't participate on this board years ago, although I've been reading Melodicrock.com since it started! And now look, I'm at Janitor status!

I've said this a million times. Seemingly Miss Priss Friga didn't want a supposed "metal" singer's interpretation of the songs. FINE! Then do not offer Jeff the permanent gig. Also you fuckers, have the courtesy to call him and tell him MAN to Friga and Fro.
