Hello, Everybody. First-time poster, but long-time lurker, here. Has anyone seen Gregg Rolie and his band? I always liked his voice and singing--going back to the Santana days growing up in San Francisco, remembered their songs playing on the radio all the time (oops, gave my age away). When I jumped on the SP/Journey bandwagon only a few years ago, founding out it was Gregg that I had heard with Santana, I went back and purchased the whole Journey record catalog and, mostly through trading, acquired numerous concert boots. I don't much care for the long instrumentals of the first 3 (pre-SP) albums (fusion music playing?), but I do like all the songs when Gregg sang (like Saturday Night, She'll Be Alright, etc.). And, of course, I love ALL the duets with SP from Infinity-Departure. Recently, when I read in the local paper that the Gregg Rolie Band will be playing a gig here, I was excited to go see him in person. For a 60-yr. old, he is very charismatic, much better looking (IMO) than the Journey days with all that poofy hair. Seems he has gone back to Latin-style music (their cd was titled Roots). They played an hour set, some Santana hits, but no Journey. And he still sounds good, still got the sexy voice. But I did notice he had to go for the water bottle a lot, before and after almost every song he sang, (lol).

i saw the GREGG ROLIE BAND this past summer at Red Rocks Amphitheater. He opened for the Steve Miller Band. I added the set list from that show. He played almost all early Santana and a couple of new solo hits and NOTHING from his days with Journey.

Yes, I believe that's the setlist at the Atlantis Casino-Hotel. I only knew the Santana songs. They came to play as part of the annual Street Vibrations event celebration where bikers from all over the country converge onto Reno for a week. I didn't make the connection but, boy, did I stand out waiting in line to get in the door among the bikers with their get-up and leathers on--both male and female. And little Asian gal like me . Hubby not a rock fan, so I went alone. During the performance, this tall white guy kept leaning over, asking me to get up and dance with him. I kept shrugging my shoulders, telling him I was married, pointing to my wedding ring, but he was persistent . Very weird. But I enjoyed the music and the band tremendously.

Hi, Sallee! Thanks for straightening it out with Andrew. For some reason, just couldn't get in here to post sooner. I recognize some posters that were at PV. Yes, there is a bikers convention called Street Vibrations held every year in Reno, usually in the fall. All the downtown hotels would be booked solid, and you'll see rows and rows of fancy motorcycles taking over the parking lots. In the early years, local residents would get all upset with the motorcycle congestion and noise, but I think we are used to it now. It generates a lot of revenue for the city, and the bikers usually are respectful and well behaved. No Hell's Angels, shootings, or anything like that. Most residents would avoid going downtown, anyway, because of the congestion. Luckily, the hotel where the GRB played was not downtown. That's why it didn't really occurred to me that it was Street Vibrations week until I got there and saw the bikers and their hardware. I think I was the only "civilian" going in to see the band . Never thought of them as being a "biker" band, but during his introduction, Gregg did state that they were booked specifically for Street Vibrations. Oh, right after the show, it was announced that there is a table set up outside the showroom and that the band would come out for chats and autographs. I was delighted to hear this as I had brought along the photo insert from Captured cd (just in case I get a chance to ask Gregg for his autograph). So, a group of us formed, single-file, alongside the table waiting for the guys to come out. As each band member walk toward the table to sit down (there's 6, and Gregg), they were looking down the line at us. I could see each guy kind of have this funny look when they made eye contact with me. Like I said, I stood out, didn't have the biker look at all and a lonesome . When it was my turn to get to the guys, all I could muster was I was there to see Gregg and I'm a long-time fan. Gregg smiled and said, "Thank you very much." As he was signing my Captured cd insert, I blurped this (lame) line out, "you didn't play any Journey songs?". He looked up at me with a smile again and said, "Not with this band." I was really too nervous to say anything more than "thank you", kept the line moving, and headed for the stairs. I was grinning ear-to-ear as I was driving home. Really regret that I didn't bring my camera, though.
