AN OVERLOOKED VOCALIST

If Neal and Jon were open to recruiting from YouTube, they overlooked what I think was their best option.

This guy has sensitivity when/where it counts and check out his breath control on the last note. Very impressive. Not to mention, he's a musician to boot. If he stopped multitasking singing and playing keyboards, I'll bet he'd sing circles around Arnel.

The man can sing. He's got the Arnel affliction of the accent though. That'll haunt him here just like it does Arnel.

Journey fans like us are very particular, and want what we had with SP.

It's nothing personal toward this dude or Arnel, not at all. We just want what we want. We want it to sound as close to the original as possible. That's why there was such a big push from this board for Jeremey. He's the man that can do it the way we want it done.

If we're stuck with Arnel, then you'll see very few from this board going to those concerts.

Edit: He may have been overlooked by Journey, but not here. He's been scrutinized already.

Thanks for the link bro.

He sounds awesome, but the rest of the band is pretty hot too. And man, what a fuckin' great mix.

Who is this guy?? Ive never seen/heard him before?

That was lovely.
Really like his voice.
Thanks for the link.

I checked out another of his on that YouTube page - and this one's not so impressive.

Aaah well, never mind.
his rendition of Faithfully was great. And I really hate that song!

The more clips like this I see, the more special Perry becomes.

No one can replace Perry. That's a given. But he's not coming back to Journey, ever. If I had to choose between Arnel and this guy, I'd lean toward this guy.

He physically fits the band better, and, at least to my ear, instills more emotion in his vocal. Arnel has a solid voice, but he's soulless, has no stage presence, can't hold a long note and he struggles to maintain the high ones.

Aside from Perry, this guy can also pull off Andrea Bocelli. (duet here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc0vcbxOTcM ) Watch how long he holds the last note. Very impressive.

All I'm saying is, Neal and Jon appear to have cut the auditions too short. They seem to be more interested in finding a fast replacement over a better one.

IMO Arnel blows this wedding singer out of the water. Don't get me wrong, the guy is good but Arnel is simply better, a world class vocalist. He also has an incredible likability factor.

I don't think he blows him out of the water but I do think he's a bit better than this guy. I also don't agree that Arnel is soulless. That kinda stuff is in the ear of the beholder.

Whilst Arnel is somewhat of a vocal chameleon his talent seems to go beyond pure mimicry and as such makes YouTube karaoke jockey number 665977 pale in comparison. To my ears its a night and day difference. If he gets the gig then great, I look forward to hearing him fronting Journey - hopefully via some decent production this time though!

I couldn't disagree more, but that's where I'm going to leave it. It's all in the ear of the beholder and it's all subjective. My ear leans toward soulful delivery. Vocals with heart. I've yet to hear that from Arnel on any clip of any song from him, Journey or otherwise. It's all technically solid, but pretentious in his attempt to deliver emotion. I'd say the guy in these clips sings closer to Jeremy's deliver than to Arnel's. Don't get me wrong, Arnel's a much better vocalist than Augeri. But to me, any vocalist fronting the band named Journey needs to bring heart to technically skilled vocals for me to enjoy it. Augeri wasn't even technically skilled, so at least Arnel is a step up from him.

It's Jeremey! Who by the way is far and away a much, much better singer than YouTube dude (as is Augeri).

The Arnel talk can stop. He's NOT fronting the band. If he does, I'll eat a dead dog.

I hope you're right. At this point, the only interest I would have in the band is if Perry comes back OR, to a much lesser degree, if Jeremey gets the job.

Eat a dead dog?

They're from NY or Jersey for sure. There was a comment in the responses to the video which stated, ironically enough, that some band members know Augeri and that they were the go-betweens responsible for getting him the Journey gig.

This guy's 'Faithfully' was lovely.
But how do we compare him to a rock singer when he is dressed in his wedding singer garb and restricted from 'giving it some wellie' [as we say over here. :)] by standing behind a keyboard.

Let's see him come out from behind his keyboards, let his hair down, and get him kitted out in some rockstar pants and shirt - THEN we can mark him out of ten.

He was okay, but nothing special, I almost do it that good.Maybe they should hire him,Journey would be a great wedding band. If they wanted the Legacy sound, Jeremey could have pulled it off. Right now they are dead and have no lead singer, how fucking lame is that??

Didn't Jeremey turn the job offer down? :?

Read Jeremey's blog here... http://bullmuse.wordpress.com/2007/09/

That should catch you up.

Hmmmm.
Indecisive Neal strikes again.
I heard Jeremey had said 'no' when he was offered it, which - reading the blog - technically he did,
but only when Neal started to backpedal on what Jerenmey had thought was a firm job offer.

Thanks for the info.

If this was played out in a movie, we'd all be saying it wasn't realistic, wouldn't we?

I know Perry is not coming back. I don't believe he physically can do it anymore.

Journey is dead as we knew it.

We will always have '81.

That's what I'm talking about. The best concert I've ever been to.
