Funny story

My dad was visiting me this weekend, and I noticed he was checking something on his laptop a few times during the day, just like I check something on my PC a few times a day. I asked him about it, and it turns out he's gotten involved in a message board for a certain college football team. This team has had some ongoing controversy with the coach and the others at the top, and the message board discussion has become very polarized and heated. He spent probably a good hour telling me all the history and drama of the situation -- all the lies, deceit, and cover-ups, as well as how several fans have helped chip away at all of them. Great story! Near the end, I was almost laughing, and he said, "Hey, I know this all sounds silly to ya... I'm just kinda ranting." And I said, "No, not at all... I'm laughing because if I took your story and just swapped a few names around, it would be the one we are all involved in on a message board I post on... haha!

I mean, the parallels were really interesting. One big controversy is that the team took on some new players a while back that just did an outstanding job for freshmen (lead them thru 8 straight wins), and then the coach gets miffed at the new quarterback over a comment he made years before and benches him for the rest of the season (and they started losing games immediately following this). Then there is an e-mail sent out supposedly from a "fan" that just rips into this quarterback to malign and embarrass him, and its source ends up getting tied back to the coach and his wife! (Sound familiar?) Many of the fans want to see this egotistical jerk strung up by his jewels, with some even renting planes to drag banners over games that say to fire the guy.

I just got a kick out of it, and returned the favor by telling him everything that's been going on with the band, and how the fans have reacted. Then to top it off I made him watch several YouTube clips of JSS, Jeremey and Arnel... haha! Then for no other reason than I didn't feel like turning in that early, I made him listen to Tony Harnell from TNT. :P Now I know a little more about his football team, and he knows a lot more about melodic rock. :P
