I'd rather see somebody I know can sing the songs.

The tour could be called.
Journey "Revisited" hosted by Memorex. No, Perry's not live. We told you that up front, so its not fraud.
Enjoy the show!

I think they'd get interest from people that never saw him live. To even see these guys together on a stage may be worth the ticket price for some.
After the Arnel era, this may yet happen. You know I'm tongue in cheek but if they wait another 3-5 years, this'll be the only way he'll be able to do it, "in my opinion".
By the way, no I don't think he'd do it either. Just curious what the masses of Perry fans would do if he did.

Use backing tapes.
Tune everything down a step.
Let DC take high end/lead during harmonies, etc.
Bring in female backup singers to help the high end.
Do medleys.
Sit on stools, add acoustic work.
America won't care...just get 'the voice' back out there any way they can.
Journey's days are numbered, and AP isn't going to take them anywhere.
later~

no to lip sync, but bands tour with backing tapes to enhance all the time, so or maybe something like boston did with delp and having fran do the high parts as harmony leads was very good.

Ha ha, that was hilarious. Female backup singers would surely be like holding up a giant sign: "Stick a fork in us, we're done!"
"Stools", yeah, do a "Journey Storytellers" concert series.
A Storytellers type might be entertaining 'cept they'd be brawlin' in the very first show. End of tour.

Oh yeah, huge money in the folks that never got to see him live, (*raises hand*) but I think there's also a pretty decent market of folks who will only see Journey that way. I know a few people personally who fell off the wagon after Perry left and as one person told me, that's the only way she would ever go again (she say them once in 86) - and to quote exactly the way she put it - "I'm not seeing no ersatz-Journey".... LOL!

What an incredible thread. After the berating Augeri after tapegate I am amazed that so many people would happily pay to see Perry mime. Someone even suggested letting Castro take over on high end and harmonies. Harmonies maybe but even at 50% I would say that Perry's voice would still be superior and better than the vast majority of other vocalists performing today.
This is getting silly now. Arnel can sing the songs exactly as intended and although his stage presence is yet to be fully determined I would say its a safe bet that Deen's days of singing lead are now in the past. It's simply not required.
To answer the poll - yes I would pay to see Perry perform but only if singing live. Other than that give me someone who can any day of the week and i'll keep the happy memories. In addition I would assume that Perry would have way too much pride to ever resort to tapes.

I don't know about pride being the issue - I don't think it would ever even be a question for him no matter what the situation - he wouldn't use tapes. He strikes me as a guy who would rather lose a nut than resort to using tapes on stage.

Agreed. Its just sad when one of the worlds premier living vocalists is no longer performing as much as their fan base would like - in Perry's case almost producing nothing at all for the past decade.

For me, if SP had to use tapes, then I wouldn't want to know about it.

LOL...Yeah,I'd go to see the show, sure. It would take place somewhere in the Twilight Zone, right?
In the real world,Perry would never use tapes. If he wouldn't be able to sing,he wouldn't get on the stage.
"Steve Perry" and "tapes" in the same sentence... Ok,I've seen it all.

Didn't have to think for one second, the answer was yes, yes and yes...anytime, anywhere, but not going to happen in our lifetime.

I can only imagine the euphoria of seeing a Perry led Journey again. Won’t happen, so why bother getting excited.

what's wrong with lip synching? Madonna, Britney, etc. all do it. You can't dance that hard and sing well at the same time. I'd pay to see Journey with a lip syncher.

If I want to see dancing I'll go to a club, pay a $5 cover and watch scantilly clad women dance all fucking night. However, if I go to a CONCERT I want to hear
live music. I don't mind a few tricks here and there or maybe a beefed up chorus, but why even go waste your fuckin' time with something that is completely recorded?

Gross, but funny. And not all Perry fans wear granny panties. Hell, not all of them wear panties.

Some of us would pay to see Steve take a shit if he was singing while doing it.
Before you laugh and call me a loon, think of this...
I would rather watch someone take a shit, than get shit upon.
And getting shit upon is EXACTLY what Neal, Jonathan & Ross has done to most of you!!!
Generations anyone???
That was a 'lip' sync... errrrrr 'lip' smacking good Journey worthy CD, wasnt it?????

I wouldn't care if the whole band just went through the motions with the 81 concert playing over the speakers.
To see Perry with Journey on stage would be worth the ticket!
Of course, only if the ticket was $25. I don't spend my money on concerts.

I see Journey as a rock band along the lines of Aerosmith and Foreigner. In this case a five piece unit.
Using backup singers (male or female) is a Vegas type show to me (or Clay Aiken show). Not that they'd be far from it if they did what's proffered in this poll.
Would NS & JC do it? If SP said yes, Arnel's out the door. We can all agree on that. Will this ever happen? Of course not.
