Set List For Journey Tribute Band?

Postby JDrums » Tue Nov 06, 2007 8:34 am

Hi! I'm new here, I'm in a Journey tribute band and I would like your input on what songs you think would be good crowd pleasures at a show. The idea is to please the die hard fans but still give something different for those who only know the hits and then there's the ones that show up and want to hear "Freebird". ;) lol.. Thanks for your input.

In no particular order, here's our current set list we're working on:

After The Fall
Ask The Lonely
Anyway You Want It
Be Good To Your Self
Chain Reaction
Don't Stop Belevin'
Escape
Faithfully
Feeling That Way / Anytime
Girl Can't Help It
I'll Be Alright Without You
Just The Same Way
Lights / Stay A While
Line Of Fire
Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'
Oh Sherry
Open Arms
Message Of Love
Only The Young
Send Her My Love
Separate Ways
Still They Ride
Stone In Love
The Party's Over
Wheel In The Sky
When You Love A Woman
Where Were You
Who's Cryin Now

Songs we're discussing about adding but we're not quite sure are:
Edge Of The Blade
Loving You Is Easy
Do You Recall
LaDoDa
JDrums
Radio Waves

In no particular order -

After The Fall
Ask The Lonely
Be Good To Your Self
Chain Reaction
Don't Stop Belevin'
Escape
Girl Can't Help It
I'll Be Alright Without You
Oh Sherrie
Message Of Love
Only The Young
Send Her My Love
Separate Ways
Still They Ride
Stone In Love
When You Love A Woman
Who's Cryin Now
Loving You Is Easy

Not too bothered about the others. For me their inclusion would simply be a good excuse to hit the bar/toilet! Maybe add something like Higher Place from Arrival or even Faith in the Heartland from Generations?

If I were writing the setlist, I'd start it out with a couple of fist pumpers to get the crowd going. Then mix it up for a while, and end with strong stuff. I have to put The Party's Over at the end because it doesn't fit anywhere else for me.

Stone In Love
Line Of Fire

Say hi and introduce the band.

Feeling That Way / Anytime
Be Good To Your Self
Girl Can't Help It
Send Her My Love
Chain Reaction
I'll Be Alright Without You
Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'
Where Were You
Who's Cryin Now
Only The Young
Open Arms
Just The Same Way
Wheel In The Sky
Ask The Lonely
Message Of Love
Lights / Stay A While
After The Fall
Still They Ride
Escape
When You Love A Woman
Anyway You Want It
Oh Sherry
Faithfully
Separate Ways
Don't Stop Belevin'
The Party's Over

These are all good for your repertoire. I really like Loving You Is Easy and LaDoDa. I think they'd be hard to sing though. Edge of the Blade is good for a hard rocker and Do You Recall is for me the weakest one of the four. I still like it though.

I agree with Rick. That's a good lineup. Sounds like one Journey themselves would do.

Oh and just BTW, Oh Sherry isn't a Journey song. Funny how that happens, huh?

What part of the country are you in? Might want to come and check it out.

That set-list looks great to me!

IMHO, every Journey Tribute band should have
Only the Young
Message of Love
Escape
Girl Can't Help It
Separate Ways
and Be Good To Yourself

on the list.

Would you consider "Higher Place"?

And if your still on the fence about "Edge of the Blade" it certainly gets my vote!

Does your band have a website?

Definitely add "Edge of the Blade" - great song even if some of the crowd aren't familiar with it. I'd also go for "Higher Place". Good luck and I want to know if you have a website, too! :)

When I saw the title of the thread, I figured Neal finally broke down and decided to post here - but then the screen name gave it away.

Oh well. Good luck with the gig.

songs from TBF & Arrival that every Journey tribute band SHOULD have or at least consider (but unfortunately they ignore most of these):

Higher Place (should be used as an opener every now and then)
Live & Breathe (one of the best Journey songs EVER)
Kiss Me Softly
World Gone Wild
Livin' To Do
I Got A Reason
We Will Meet Again
One More
Can't Tame The Lion
Trial By Fire
Message Of Love
When You Love A Woman (not one of my faves but the big single from that album)
Castles Burning
Forever In Blue

Thanks for the comments. We've done several shows and have been together for a year now. We're starting to get some fairly good exposure and we have a TV spot on a morning show coming up soon in our local market. What I'm doing is some research to help refine our set list for the coming months. I figured since most users here are long time Journey fans it would be a good place to get some feedback. I greatly appreciate everyone's input! Yes we have a myspace website, but I'd like to keep it a secret so things stay unbiased and neutral. ;) lol..

You have a really good setlist. It would be nice to hear some of the songs.

JDrums,

Since you picked Freebird as a song, which quite frankly is a great choice, I would like to hear Journey do Stairway. Neal could tear it up, no doubt! However, I don't think I will ever see it happen as I will not ever pay another dime to see Journey again without SP or JSS at lead vocals. Journey lost me as a lifetime fan recently. I'll keep the classics close to heart, though.

I play in Frontiers, a Journey Tribute Band and we play all of those songs with the exception of The Party's Over. You will be received well. What state are you in and where do you plan to play?
