Makes sense to me. But, none of the decisions coming out of the Journey camp lately make much sense. Chalfant has been the easy choice for over a decade now. There must be something from the pre TBF "Chalfant/Rolie" reunion lineup that just did not sit well with Friga or Schon (or both). Chalfant has wanted to be in Journey for a long time now. :?

here's what I figure doesn't sit well.........Chalfant is fan friendly. That seems to be the one thing that neither Cain or Schon can handle in a lead singer.

I may be wrong here, but I don't think that being fan friendly is the reason that SP or SA is not in the band any more. ( For some, who briefly met SP once, he may not have been that fan friendly at all. But I am willing to grant that everyone has bad days. Never met SA, but have heard good things.)

I didn't mean to imply that it was the sole reason that the last three singers aren't with the band, but I am quite sure it played a big part in the decisions that were made surrounding the removal of each of them.

That was awesome... what the hell is Neal & Jon's problem??
It's not like there is no one here in the states that is fully competent and willing to sing for Journey, why the hell do you need to look overseas and hire a lounge singer who sings for a completely dead crowd of 10 people at a time nightly???

JSS ROCKS
PERRY was RIGHT.

Forgive me if this is old news, but didn't he get hired by Journey and then fired after one show so they could hire Augeri? Why? I think he sounds great on this, they are insane for not hiring him now...

I believe they hired him in 96 and he was out when Perry decided he wanted to return. Not sure about 98.

My gut is that that they feared Chalfant was too much like Perry. And at the time, it was an attitude & power struggle. But today, I think it's a different story...they should grab Chalfant and laugh all the way to the bank.

Of course, they should bring back Rolie too...

Great job, Cindi, please do post the other clips!

I agree, Kevin did a fantastic job here, very close to the original. It would appear he hasn't lost any of his tone and who knows why Neal/Jon keep passing on him. I don't believe there is any animosity between the guys, though, as I have read several interviews on various fan sites involving Kevin in past years and he always referred to the Journey guys as "bros" and "I just love those guys" even as how they chose SA over him in '98.

It's hard to believe after hearing that clip that he wasn't even invited to audition.

I'm usually too wrapped up in it all to remember too, Laura. If it wasn't for you Cindi, I wouldn't have our Cali JSS shows and Southbend MR memories captured on pic and vid! Image

Actually to be honest.....Kevin did one show w/Journey....Perry found out about it and came running back to the band.....thus their last album together was born.

That's not how it all went down, imo. This one show was HH's retirement roast, which happened in 1992, I believe. According to an SP interview around that time, he was in New York mixing his FTLOSM album and was not available to attend (said he sent a telegram). I don't believe SP going back to Journey had anything to do with KC. The record label was working to get the classic lineup back together ever since 1987. It finally materialize in 1995.

Neal and Jon also knew they could never be as successful a group without SP's voice on a Journey record.

This is only 1 song, but I really do like his tone and delivery on it. How old is KC?

I started a separate thread on the MR Fest Reviews board requesting the setlist from Kevin's show and no one has been able thus far to give me the complete show. Is there anyone here that was at the show that can list Kevin's entire set??

Thanks...

IMO, the biggest of all the big mistakes Friga and Schon ever made, over the past decade and a half, was not going with the reunion lineup that contained Chalfant and Rolie. I feel that Friga had alot to do with that decision also.

I really am thinking that Neal's loyalty/friendship with Friga is what has caused alot of the downfall of Journey post 1987. I have always felt that the dismissal of JSS was way more of a Friga decision. IMO Neal could survive in the music business, especially in the rock world, without his ties to Friga. I can't say the same about The Frig.

Message to Neal, get away from Jon and start hanging with some of you old rock friends (Hagar, Montrose, Satriani, Rolie, Rogers, etc.). You've always professed your desire to rock more. Well hangin with the Frig will just de-ball you over time. Rock and The Frig just don't go together.
