Backlash against fansites

Prince has waged legal war against three of his own fan websites.

The singer’s three largest web communities, Prinfams, Housequake and Prince.org have all received legal notices to remove all “photographs, images, lyrics, album covers and anything linked to Prince’s likeness.”

Prince’s request include asking the websites to remove fan’s own photographs of Prince inspired tattoos and Prince inspired number plates.

In a statement on their official website, PrinceFansUnited said that the requests are a “violation of the freedom of speech and should not be allowed.”

“It is their hope that Prince will reconsider his position and allow these fansites to continue their existence without constant threats from Prince and his attorneys.

“Should this not be possible, the fansites are fully prepared to defend their position in the proper court of law, as well as fully prosecute any claims to which they are justly entitled.”

PrinceFansUnited maintain that the content on each of their websites is “within the law.”

WOW!

My question is this:

If Prince is acting like this toward his fans, why would they want to continue to be fans or even be involved with a fan site in his name? I certainly wouldn't. :?

At least Frigga and Fro haven't stooped to this level...........yet!

Wow, that's... wow. Way to alienate your fans, tiny purple dude.

Okay, if I were running something like that, I think I would replace all the images with middle fingers directed at Prince. That's just cooky. I can understand demanding certain content be removed, like if people are posting anything copyritten... mp3s and such... but pictures? 'Scuse me... does Prince own, as in is he the copyrighter on ALL the pictures? No, since to hold the copyright, you had to have been the one who TOOK the pic.

Fuck Prince.

The NFL Network recently replayed last year's Super Bowl, including Prince's halftime show. So, I guess he should also sue the NFL?

This is hilarious!!! I posted about him several months ago, but for those who didn't see it, I'll recap. First, let me say, I think Prince is an amazingly talented dude. With that out of the way, I'd like to add that I think he's a sassy little bitch!!!

To recap a story I posted earlier, I saw an episode of David Letterman (this was many years ago, don't remember when) and he was actually kicked off of the show! I can't have been the only person in here to have seen the episode! It went like this;

He came on the show as the musical guest (Like all the other musicians over the years), and played one of his tunes. After he finished the song from the band's stage, he walked over to David's side of the stage. David gets up to greet him with a handshake, and Prince rolls his eyes at David. While this is happening, Princess (I mean Prince's) bodyguard uses both hands to shove David in the chest to get him to back away from Prince. While this is happening, Prince is looking on like "Who the fuck do you think YOU are to be touching me!". David is shocked (as you could tell), and tells Prince and his bodyguard to get the hell out of his studio!!! I don't remember what happened after, but I think they cut to commercial. Someone else chime in if you've seen this...I can't be the only one!!! It had to have been 12 or 13 years ago.

Anyways, I think Prince falls into that eccentric category with Michael Jackson...He's hella talented, and just plain FUCKED UP!!! LOL!

Fro's still behind on his legal fees from his 2nd divorce. If anyone's going to waste the lawyer's time on shit like this...it would be Fucka. Granted, I wouldn't put it 1 pube hair past that piece of shit.

Maybe I should be keeping an eye out on the mailbox...

Never been a fan of the Purple One at all.

Have to admit to liking "When Doves Cry", "Thieves in the Temple", and "Raspberry Beret". I'm weird that way. I can be totally not into a singer and still like the occasional song.

This really sucks - what is he thinking?

Journey could do this and it wouldn't matter to me a bit. I'll just spend my spare time over at JSS' place! I'm here because of the people and the discussions, not because I'm in love with Journey.

This is probably just some sort of posturing...no legal intent at all...just a statement to cover his @$$ for some other reason.

You KNOW this happened to a couple Perry sites.
One day they were there, then some Perry "associates" raised hell with the members, now the sites are gone.
It's all about control.
Not blaming Perry, but someone in his "camp" likes to play god.

Yep. A certain page/offering on a(n unrelated) website was yanked immediately after a link to it had been posted on an Perry site. I'm not going into details but yeah, someone is totally watching. Thing is, in order to even see the area where the link was posted, you'd have had to be a member. So someone is watching a LOT.
