Us against the "other" Journey fans....

Postby texafana » Fri Nov 09, 2007 1:07 pm

You guys (and gals) do realize we're like a .00001 percent of all the Journey fans world wide right? We're not the majority by any means. Even if every Journey fan on this forum vowed to never again see Journey because of singer "x" they would still fill huge venues right. C'mon...you know we're a small bunch, very vocal, but still a small bunch..right? ;) ME? I can't wait to see them again, regardless of singer "x".

Hey numbnuts, when is the last time they filled "huge venues?" Def Leppard carried them two years ago and they played theatres in Europe while alone. Steve Perry is the ONLY option if they want to fill the venues you speak of. As for your undying support for Journey, I'm happy for you. However, starting a cheerleading thread for them when you're not sure if their singer is Steve Perry or Steve McNair is pretty fuckin' stupid. Grab your grill and go barbecue ala Brad Delp.

Huge venues? I doubt it, unless they are double billed with a big name band. The casual fan isn't the one going to more than one show or buying merch or cds either. There will be a dent, albeit a small one, but a dent non the less. :)

Is there a reason to give Summer 2008 a chance? Maybe an interesting co-headlining pairing that could play big venues...?

Should know where they are as soon as the Chilean music festival ends. No need to wait 'til summer ends before flipping them off!

You don't even know who their new singer is so how can you support them? What if it's a convicted sex offender? Or a non-convicted one like George Michael? The only thing you need to "balance" is yourself on chair with a noose around your neck during an earthquake.

I like guitar playing and Neal shreds! I love the ivory, and Cain is one of the best at it. And when it comes to drummers, Dean is frickin awesome. Alot to see and hear at a Journey concert other than singer "x". ;) I didn't mean to cause this thread to be hijacked into a kicking my ass thread, but it just seems like alot of users here forget there's a whole nother world of Journey fan out there that just wants to buy a ticket, listen to some good music live. And Journey always delivers on that respect! Dim the lights, cue opening intro walk on music, let cain play the intro to Separate Ways, oh yah!!

No, actually you just have a very small number of posts and very little credibility on this forum. You're the minority. Deal with it.

Of all the forums I participate in, this forum has by far the most number of personal attacks I've ever seen. It's almost like there's 500 of the same person using different log in names. Very weird...

I must say that I, too, am curious. I assumed that this place was, ultimately, an open-minded collection of boards. Yet less than a day into my membership, I've seemingly offended one or two users. Odd.

I'm pretty sure what you just pointed out is exactly why Neal and Jon were able to laugh off the online backlash they've been receiving (as reported by Jeremy in his blog). They know only the die hard fans bother to post online. They also know they fill about two rows of seats at each of their shows. They know full well the majority of people who see a show in the post perry era are only coming for one thing. To hear the greatest hits and relive memories of their youth. It's 2007. Melodic rock has been over for most state side music buyers for more than a decade. Most fans are not really interested in new material from these guys (especially without Perry).

The current line up isn't touring for the love of music. They're touring to pay the bills. They've made their front man choices purely from a business perspective, and from that perspective, they think they need a front man who has a similar pitch and/or tone as Perry. Hell, If they could tour with a cardboard cutout of Perry and play his taped vocals over their live instrumentals, they would.

The thing is, the overwhelming positive response they got to JSS on tour should have taught them they can tour the old material as long as they have a charismatic frontman with SOPHISTICATED vocal chords to handle the Perry material. Obviously, that wasn't a lesson they learned. It's their choice and their error, but they know it won't affect their bottom line. People here are just venting their feelings. Partially because the Perry era music means that much to them, but also partially because they have too much free time on their hands.

...ahem...

I'm convinced that Journey could have had a major resurgance if they had continued with JSS.

And, he's right. We are ALL in the minority in the big picture of things. The last time you went to a Journey concert the number of people who were there from these forums were FAR out numbered the number who were 'just there to have a good time'. That IS a fact.

We are not only a minority - we are so much in the minority that we are insignificant to the band.

Major? Nah. That's a huge exaggeration. Their style of music isn't the main stream anymore. It's classic rock.

Could they have gotten a ballad on radio again? Had more of a career than JUST the greatest hits tour year after year? Yes, I believe that with JSS, that could have been possible. But "MAJOR RESURGENCE"? Not realistic.

I didn't mean chart-topping or anything related. But compared to their usual media coverage, yes, major.
