...Does watching Arnel on his Youtube clips looking down at his lyrics seem distracting? In most of the clips he is just standing in one spot and gazing down at the words.

I hope he will gain the confidence with Journey to memorize words to all the songs and give a great stage performance. (ya theres been no official announcement but hell everyone seems to be saying this is the guy)

Heck, having Journey as my favorite band, I don't even know all the words to every song.

I noticed that too. I don't always understand what he says but I think he takes audience requests so he may not know the words.

True I agree...or it could possibly be his lack of knowledge of the English language, which will grow over time as he is touring with the band.

Just one more reason Jeremey, chalfant, etc all would have been the better choice... they already know all the words and do not need speech thearapy.

My prediction is journey will not officially announce AP like they did JSS... they may very well decide the fit is not a good one.

AP's tenure may be a very short one.

Perry had cheat sheets too. Granted he didn't stare holes through them the hole time, but still...
...some people just need them, I guess.
Though you're right, if he's gonna be fronting Journey, he needs to work on that.

Ozzy uses cheat sheets. David Lee Roth desperately needs cheat sheets. Arnel needs a new band... but not Journey for God's sake.

That's what Perry should have done, instead of tripping and stumbling through it!
Those TV appearances would have been a hell of a lot more entertaining!!

I noticed that on JSS's Queen dvd, he had a laptop down in front which I assume had the lyrics on it. Saw him look down really only a couple times I think. Pretty damn good considering they did what, over 40 Queen songs on that ? No way in hell you could know every lyric to all those songs. I don't mind if an artist is "occasionally" looking at lyrics, but if you have to constantly gaze at them, IMO it takes away from the performance.

I think he remembered them pretty damn well last night!

Not easy doing a catalog of 20 songs from two decades ago or more!!

Amazing what you learn on here. I didn't know they used cheat sheets. I just thought they had fabulous memories.

But.....I know every word to every song from ROR and Escape eras.

I've seen clips of guns and roses and the rolling stones showing the same thing. It's not unusual. The camera man was behind the lead singer looking over his shoulder and caught a glimpse of a lyric scrolling monitor facing the singer. I'm sure Journey has something comparable waiting to go.

I've got a feeling Journey won't make ANY official announcements as to who their lead singer is. They'll just post concert dates, let fans show up and post a sign at the auditorium entrance which says:

Dear fans,
Due to illness, Steve Perry is on hiatus. Arnel Pineda is covering the lead singer position. We wish Steve all the best.

I swear to god, there was a similar sign posted at the NYC Beacon theater show back in 2001 at one of Augeri's first shows. The illness mentioned referred to his hip injury at the time. They didn't let fans know Perry wasn't the lead singer until after everyone had already purchased tickets.

Toto uses tele-prompters. They have one in front of Luke, one in front of Kimball, and one in front of Spinner. May also have one in front of Greg.

Tele prompters are standard now days. It's synced to the music, all bands over 40years old use it. ;) BTW, they cleverly are disguised as monitors most of the time. lol..
