Thanks for the note. So WTF is "officially" singing?

Thanks,

Well, it's obvious since they scheduled the thing on my birthday. What else is going on that day? Sure, Shaquille O'Neal, David Gilmour, and Alan Greenspan were born that day, too, but who are they now? They are small potatoes.

So you're telling me that Journey decided to showcase the new singer to...A fucking private convention??? You've got to be kidding! I can't even imagine that Azoff thought this would be a great way to show the world the new guy? (hitting my head repeatedly against the keyboard, pause, repeatedly hitting my head against the keyboard again!!!) Damn I need some tylenol! This bands decisions are REALLY making my head hurt!

I know it's their band, their name, their gig, but I just don't follow the logic of these guys sometimes. FUCK!!! (Sorry, I feel better now!)

Actually, I think it makes sense.

Before you scream at me, hear me out:
Arnel is going to be as nervous as a squirrel shitting peach pits the first time out. They're easing Arnel into the game with a smaller audience. Letting him get somewhat comfortable fronting Journey, feeling out whatever stage presence he will hopefully develop. Better to do it in a venue like this before throwing him to the wolves of a real concert. I mean if he's going to goof up, better he does it out of the eye of joe public internet reporter. This way he can learn what not to do at a real concert.

Don't get me wrong, I definitely understand doing it in front of a smaller audience (they did this with Augeri). They should have done a smaller show with friends/family and a few fans. This way they're getting honest feedback and a chance to reherse in front of a live group. How many of those people from the "Convention" know jack shit about Journey??? Probably not many! JMHO.

A few warm-up shows before a summer tour...pretty good idea to get Arnel warmed up to performing in front of a bigger audience. Summer tour starting in June, maybe?

You are forgetting that these conventions are huge and the payday is well worth it. A lot of bands do this, the details just don't get posted on message boards everywhere (sorry guys!)

I know what you're saying Andrew, but you'd think that it's a big enough deal with them getting another vocalist, that they would've showcased him to a few friends, family, and most importantly to the fans! At least before they start doing corporate gigs?

I used to work for a major office supply chain store. They had an annual manager's meeting and vendor show each year (maybe still do, this was 10 years ago). 7,000+ people would attend. One year, they rented out Universal Studios for a night, next day Bo Schembechler (former Michigan Football Coach) spoke, another night Dana Carvey was the entertainment.

Previous years the entertainment was bands and artists with millions of records sold.

One night, a few thousand people, and a boatload of cash. No lengthy tour required, in and out in one day. Fans are all liquored up and their ticket has been paid for, so they will love the dirty dozen, regardless of Perry, Augeri, Soto, Arnel. You could probably put Dana Carvey up there to sing like Perry and people would still like it. :D

i actually thought about that 2 years ago.. rock n roll fantasy camp... for only 10k bucks. . BUT .. there was a chance to play cover songs with neal and bruce kulick.. i think i would just roll the volume knob to off and pretend.......... i would be the guy bugging him to death..

I was just in Vegas and there was a convention going on - 125,000 people. That would be a very good sized crowd to perform in front of. Not that I would ever go see them without SP...
