Sorry if I missed this one, but I thought it deserved a mention. I'm on a Mr.Chalfant trek today and came across his myspace page where he is making available a cd of Journey covers and quite frankly they sound great! Kind of makes me think how a modernized remake of the tunes with Steve Perry might sound? (Ok, I could be stretching it a bit...) But damn...I'm officially on the "Kevin Chalfant as lead singer for Journey" band wagon. Daaammnn!! He sounds like a mix of SteveA and SteveP thrown together.

Check out the first tune, which is a mix of the Journey covers.

p.s. If this is old news feel free to remove this thread, sorry!

I just ran across this a week ago, and was impressed. Didn't like all the versions, but would love to see him singing with Journey.

Sorry, I just read my own post, and thought it came across rude! I didn't mean it to come across that way. This news is several months old though. Obviously you didn't know that or you wouldn't have posted. It is a great album, but I still think it sounds off to me. Don't get me wrong, I have both Storm albums, as well as one or two Two fires albums and am a huge fan. It's just not quite the same as the originals. Maybe if he would have tried to put his own twist on them?

To me, there's just something about his voice that doesn't sound right on these songs. It's like Hugo to me...I own and love every Hugo album out there, but his voice is just missing something that Perry had (singing the Journey stuff that is!). His own original music kicks ass, and I'm sure if he had a better manager and/or musicians (Schon and Cain caliber) on his albums, that he would be much more successfull! JMHO.

He does a good job covering the songs, but to me they are just that - covers.

I doubt Journey would have had the hits they did with Kevin at the helm. There is just something about Perry that breathes life into those songs.

I never realized JUST how unique and special Perry's voice was until I heard so many people trying to sing the songs that he sang.

Soto is still my favorite alternative to Perry. He gave the songs new life that I haven't heard from any other singer.
