Anyone have any audio or video from the Infinity set they did in 78 at Soldier field? I caught some interviews on Youtube, but no music.

Thanks in advance.

I have one from Comiskey Park in 78 & I have a DVD of them jamming w/blues players from that year. I think that one was at Soldier Field? Let's see if one of the boot experts knows for sure.

I have them at an indoor club venue on either the Infinity or Evolution tours, and the blues jam happens with some black Chicago-Style blues heavyweights (that I think JRox just mentioned the same thing), it's maybe one of the top 5 bootleg pieces I own (thanks to NIG). That thing is priceless and has an up and coming Jrny rocking it out toe to toe on the blues w/ those old school dudes in some smokey joint. Unreal.
It's also got some interviews from Soldier Field with Neal, Perry and Rollie displaying the cocky swagger of a band knowing they're going all the way soon.

Yep that's the one. It's awesome (I owe thanks to either Sallee or Deb for that one).

The blues jam thing was in Chicago, yes, but not at Soldier Field... that was a taping of a PBS TV show called SoundStage and it was done in a small theater here in Chicago. I believe that's the Aragon Ballroom.

Fun fact - Soundstage is still on... http://www.pbs.org/wttw/soundstage/about.htm

You know this blues jam thing I think is the YouTube vid I posted a couple of months ago and RipRokken and Frank are saying that Neal was horrible on this show and that it brought Frank's respect for Neal down as a guitarist a few notches  . This is the same show, right Frank/Rip? I can't tell--they all sounded great to me :) .

That was the Aragon? Wow it looked different when I went there a few years later.

So is there a Soldier Field boot from that year?

I believe it was. I read it somewhere, but... that doesn't mean it was correct.
Could have been any of the small theaters here - The Vic, The Riviera, Aragon... they've all changed, especially since then.

I've never run across one or heard of one but... *shrug*

They were an opening band then, though, so I wonder if maybe there's footage on a Stones boot somewhere? *shrug again*

Sigh. I miss Chicago esp. this time of year. Something about palm trees w/Christmas lights just doesn't do it for me.

Aha. U have a point young lady.

I would LOVE to hear the entire song, "You're on your own" by SP!! There is only a tiny bit of him singing it on the Soldier's Field boot. Does anyone have it? (Please!) :)

I'm freezing mine off, I don't know why... I spent a week in Chicago, came back to South Carolina where its about 50 outside, and I have the heat on 75, and I'm in flannel PJ pants, a long sleeved shirt, a tshirt, and a sweatshirt on top of it, and I'm still kinda cold!!!

 Woah, I just realized, something might be up. Wow, sometimes it takes typing stuff out to let it register. :?

I grew up in Chicago...I know about COLD...most winters our heat was shut off & I slept in my coat! I wore mini skirts & knee socks in the winter, too - waiting for the bus. At least, I didn't have to walk 2 miles in the snow uphill both ways to school. Funny thing is I was hardly ever sick as a kid & as an adult living in hot weather land I get sick all the time!
(and, I do miss white Christmases & seasons). :( Post pics of Canada, Deb!

Soundstage show/Soldier Fields footage all on one dvd

PostPosted: Thu Nov 29, 2007 3:50 pm

The Soundstage show started off with footage of Journey at Soldier Fields where it appears they were getting ready to play in some big Midwest music festival. Possibly opening for the Rolling Stones? Both occurred in Chicago and 1978, so I guess whoever did the boot combined it. Steve often said that they "broke" in Chicago. After the footage at Soldier Fields, the dvd cuts to the indoor venue where Journey is featured as the musical talent for that particular Soundstage show, later jamming with their guests, those blues guitar players and the axeman.

No boot is out there of their concert at Soldier Fields, that I know of. They were just starting out, opening for bigger name acts, I think.

Someone mentioned the Comiskey Park concert. This was during the Evolution tour - 8/9/79. I have often seen the date mistaken for 1978. This is a soundboard boot. Steve sounded absolutely manificent --crystal clear voice--all through the songs-- ending with Patiently and Opened the Door -- with the glass-shattering highs. I have seen people post the tracks on this board before. If I was more proficient with the computer, I would put the whole concert up again for the people that don't have this concert. Maybe Deb or Sallee or others that have the boot can do it.

Okay, I'm sorry but the Chicago in me is obligated not to let that go. It's Soldier Field. Not Fields.
I'm doing you a favor. If you said that here people would laugh at you and beat you with a knockwurst. I've seen it happen.

That's absolutely true, and had that been the way it was used I'd say nothing, because I'm also the grammar police. But saying Soldier Fields here is just like saying "Houston Street" in NYC and pronouncing it "Hyoo-stin". People look at you like you're stupid and they know that you ain't from 'round them parts. (and I know that because I *did* that in NYC)

Annie,
I take the train from LA to Chicago once a year. Get this, when we go thru Kansas, they lock up the booze. Fuckin conservatives...the midwest is flatter than Moonbeams tits but the people are so genuinely nice. From Colorado to Illinois...great people.

PS- there was a railroad called "Frisco." :)
