why does this seem like sacrilege to me?
seriously!
it's just music, Arnel is great - not even close to being as magical as perry, but a great voice he has...
he may even sound closer to Perry of the 80s than Perry ever could again (at this rate, we may never know, lol)
but - why does this make me sick to my stomach? why am i so emotionally wrapped up in this?
hmmm

I was just thinking the same thing myself. I have no say or control in any of it, and it IS just music. But I am just sickened by it and don't know why. I think for me it has to do with re-recording the classics. I don't want any of that music with anyone but SP. If Journey and Arnel want to make new music, so be it, but leave the classics alone. They were an era and the legacy of the band, why mess any more with it. It's been run enough into the ground.

I think they have every intention of releasing the rehashed hits... will they?? We will see, but I hope not!

Twisted Sister re-recorded their Stay Hungry album a few years ago and it blew goats, and they had ALL THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS!!! Some things should just be left alone. If they wanted to add a live track of a classic tune done with the new singer or something, that's a lot more acceptible than re-recording ALL their hits and releasing them with a new vocalist... Long Time fans won't accept it, and potential new fans will probably laugh it off...

I wish I could say trust me and you would. But I speak of fact, not fiction. You will see soon.

& it's more than that, though that is the catalyst. it's all the old, "wish they would just change the name,"
& PROVE that jrny was more than Steve Perry, instead of just the opposite"

Where have you been for the last decade? Surely you ought to be used to that feeling by now, Lifer?

No, you aren't in a pissy mood, because the other thing is all this time, after renaming the company to spite Perry and saying they don't need him, they have continued to ride his "tails" the entire time. I think THAT's what pisses me off the most and now they decide to try and put another nail in his coffin with re-recording the classics with someone else. And if they do, I'm telling you, it won't work. How many times can you do the same thing over expecting a different result. It's called insanity.

Matty, have you heard this clip? Talk about AP sounding identical to Perry (albeit, minus a little passion). If this isn't going to be riding Perry's coat tails I don't know what is?

I really don't get the concept of re-recording the classics with somebody that sounds that much like Perry????

Not in so many words, but you say Journey does everything to spite SP, but in fact when they were at the Walk of Fame it was indeed NEal Schon that called him and told him he had to be there because he was an important part of the achievement. Then on the same day Neal invited him to jam with them at the concert, to which SP politely said "Thanks, but no thanks." It seems Journey has tried to mend broken fences with him but he keeps sledge-hammering the pickets. Now, I love SP, but I just want facts to be known here before we continue to incriminate Neal as the anti-Christ.

I feel the same way, Lifer...but from a different angle.
Having been slagging Journey off for being con artists for years now...here I am and it's nearly 2008 and I'm excited about their new album. I must be getting soft in the head ....

So are you saying that SP showed up at the Walk of Fame because Neal called him? I don't think so. And as for him jamming with them at the concert afterward, after squashing him into the ground over the 7 years prior, with the Nomota thing, and slamming his name at every turn, THEN Neal decided it was ok for him to sing with them? I doubt that many with any self esteem would jump at that chance.
I'm not trying to start a war here, just friendly rebuttal.

I just bought my daughter a Mr. Potatohead a few days ago... haha! Maybe that will make her a well-adjusted kid!
