Interesting that they didn't even mention Soto in the Rolling Stone article....
"Pineda has been named the band’s latest frontman, replacing Steve Augeri, who left last year."

Of course they didn't. Casual fans are their bread and butter. You think they want the casual fan to hear about what they did to Jeff?
The press release was probably sent out to everyone and their brother by their publicist and/or Azoff's management team.

I don't think I have seen that much press for Journey since Arrival...

Let's hope they capitalize.

Journey is notorious for "not capitalizing"...

That is exactly what I was thinking when I posted that.
Is it wrong for me to hope that this time is different? The track record doesn't bode well for me holding out hope...

The only upside I see is that maybe Azoff is actually involved for a change. In the past it has been obvious that Azoff Mgmt was just the name. I think Neal and Jon dictated what little they wanted to Barruck and that's all he did.

I hope you're right. I wasn't around for the release of Arrival and subsequent tour, but IMO it seems to me that they management and the band was a lot more "together" for that release, compared to Generations. Am I correct in saying that management had a larger part around the time of Arrival? I hope you're right that Azoff is involved now.

SONY was behind Arrival.
But for all the "power" Azoff has, he should have been able to do so much more...starting with Remember Me in Armageddon. It just felt to me like the band always took the easy way. They didn't want to work harder than what it takes to tour and so management didn't have to do much.
But I do remember hearing that Journey was the one to "book" the Early Show appearance...one of their disastorous self-promotion attempts. Still, chalk that one up to Journey/management.

I'll definately buy that. In your opinion, what should the band/management do to give this release and tour the best chance to succeed? Selling another singer might be tough. I remember Generations the album really only got mentions in press clippings about Generations the tour.

With Azoff's relationship with Walmart, selling this willbe easier than you might think. As others have stated, there will likely be NO picture of the band on the artwork. It will probably be a 2 or 3 disc set at 11-13 bucks. It will be easy to sell as an impulse.
If/when the website comes back up, I would expect to see Neal and Jon more "upfront" in promo pics. While there is really no video market, I would think something will be produced, low budget, likely not featuring anyone from the band. All concept, or animated, or something like that. Throw it on their new friend YouTube! (I always thought the Remember Me single should have had a video without any of the band, just clips from the movie).
But really, other than the WalMart tie-in, I think this will still be business as usual. Interviews, reviews, touring. Not much else.
