They have already played rodeos. They have been successful with 0, goose egg ,nothing since '98. They have to either get DL again or 2 other has been bands or go to the Orient to test that market. Jeff was their BIG chance !

They only now have the soaring tenor voice that they need. At any rate, they have been VERY successful touring over the last 10 years. Touring is where the $$$$$ is at and they have been very successful as it pertains to total concert goers per year. They have their best voice since Perry, a viable Asian market waiting, a new CD, Azoff's blank check deal with Wal Mart and the proper rest they needed. Future seems bright to me....or at the very least the potential that the future offers.

Like a rhinestone cowboy
Playing a guitar solo in a star-spangled rodeo
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Getting emails from singers I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone

Ummm... WRONG....

With Arnel they have instant credibility in Asia.... and they already have it in South America.... most overseas fans aren't as zealous as US fans about the post Perry years... and the replacement singers.... I'd be willing to bet we see very little of the band stateside... they can avoid any backlash by touring outside the US, make massive money in Asia & South America, and wait till there is a real demand for them in the US before they return....

Further... with Arnel in the band they can play the "international" band card... which will only help them overseas....

You are right, they have nothing to lose. A lot of the diehard fanbase couldn't care less about Arnel as the new guy because they know his days are numbered from the get go because of the way they treated SA and JSS, whatever your personal feelings are about each singer and his capabilities, or lack thereof. But, in my opinion, they are sticking with the same forumla they have used each time... go find a singer that doesn't have household recognition and try to take the credit for putting him on the map afterwards. Nobody really knew about SA before Journey, many diehard melodic rock fans knew JSS before his stint with the band, but not the average music listener, and I bet to say nobody outside of the Asian market even knows Arnel exists, period. So, when/if they make it to a level with him that they [not the fanbase] consider respectable, Cain and Schon can sit back with their huge-ass egos and say, thanks to us, the world knows about AP.

Then that is great for fans like you Dan, seriously. I'm sorry, but after hearing this youtube comparison I'm completely turned off and maybe a little creeped out. Minus Perry's emotion, AP's voice is an exact replica of Perrys. Nothing unique enough there to keep me intrigued, they have no intention of ever coming out from Perry's shadow whatsoever. :?

Yeah Deb, but I think that's what so many here are so excited about. They are getting their exact replica  They don't want to come out from his shadow, they want to relive his legacy through another singer I guess. Guess some of us just aren't impressed by that. I know I never will be.

I agree with this, but the unknown is "can he write"?

We'll see.

I don't think that matters...I doubt Cain wants him to write.

Actually, Journey has been VERY successful over the last ten years on the road. They went from triple bill ampitheaters to being able to play them on their own. And the casino/state fair market was lucrative as well. Quit being a snob and thinking only arena-bands are a success. Tell me how many bands nowadays play the arenas? Even some of the biggest current bands are cancelling/re-scheduling and not selling out the arenas. Theaters seem to be the way to go now for most bands not currently riding the super-buzz.
