What JOURNEY song will Arnel....?

HAVE to sing perfectly for him to fully gain your respect. I know for me I would really like to hear him sing "Who's crying Now." That song to me is Perry at his soulful best. Plus it will really test Arnel's inflection and pronunciation. I think if he gets that one right I will be on board.....oh and hearing NEW music would help too.
Honarable mentions for me are Ask The Lonely, Anyway You Want It, and Mother, Father.
Maybe Jeremey could chime in with his opinion on the really tough Perry stuff. I always thought that Mother, Father must be a real challenge to sing.
peace

Why Can't This Night Go On Forever...that's got to be the toughest one of all to pull off without it sounding like a lame imitation.

Only the young, lets see him pull this one off...

There's not one single song that's gonna do it for me. He's going to have to do them all well. Obviously, as with Augeri and Soto, some will be better renditions than others, but ultimately I'm looking for proximity to the original recordings. I certainly don't want him to make them "his own." They're not. Sing them the way we remember them. That's what the audience wants. I'm quite sure the tools are there. The guy has an incredible voice. It's up to the members of the band and management to prepare him as well as possible. If they do that they'll be successful, and if not they won't. I think their decision to bring in a foreign singer with such upside is a clear sign that they're serious, and they're going to use every tool at their disposal to make this incarnation as tight as possible.

He'd have to pull Steve P's head off and swap it with his own...

I'm afraid you may be right on this call! Jeremey with Frontiers does it really well. They open the show with it, just like Journey did with Steve Augeri circa 2004

I think both can be done...in a way. Like "Ask the Lonely" with Augeri and "Keep on Runnin'" with JSS. Those sounded like they should, yet you can tell its them singing it.

I'd like to hear "Lay It Down" or "Escape" and if he can pull off "Lights" without sounding like a parody I will be impressed.
I wish him well and look forward to the new material.

It's not him that has lost my respect.

Don't sexify Arnel would be a good plan as well, make him sporty and accentuate the positive.
No red leather pants, no leather pants period! and lose the pocket chains one and all.
Bring back "Good Morning Girl"

Oh, LOL! I guess in a few days I will be familiar with this song, but have never heard of it before. I was thinking, "RATT ?!?"

Lay it down is not a difficult tune. Those higher higher... things are all head voice. Not hard.
I'd say
Open Arms (Which he's already done). It's a very subtle song and tough to get right.
Escape which all the singers have struggled with live (Perry included on the later tours)

It's off the Escape album....one of Journey's harder rocking tunes.

Really? I thought that Lay It Down would be hard to get right.
I can sing along ( not well I'll admit) with alot of other Journey songs...no way would I attempt Lay It Down.
Conveying the emotions in Open Arms would be difficult.

I'm Cryin' is a song I thought no one should touch after Perry. Maybe it's time to give it a shot......NAH!

You scared me for a second...Perry sang that song just about as perfectly as it can be sung.
I think Jeff might have done justice to the emotion in the song though.

"Mother, Father" is pretty difficult. I'd love to hear his take on it.

Good one - that and "Too Late" are total too-Perry-to-touch songs for me. I never get tired of them!

Well that's one of Deen's songs. If they wouldn't let JSS sing it, why would they let Arnel?

JSS did an excellent job on Opened the Door.

Definately no shortage of soul with Jeff's vocals.

Yep Deb!! That was one of the Florida concerts I was talking about. I only saw it live in Orlando and it was soulful enough to practically bring tears to my eyes. I was amazed.

If he nails any of the songs from Infinity, Evolution or Departure...I'd be thrilled. I'm worried about the diction though.

Ah, yes.

Seems like forever ago. And so much has happened since. What a rollercoaster two years.

And not a "fun" rollercoaster. I never thought being a fan of a band could be this stressful!!

No kidding! Let's hope there are calmer seas ahead.
