OT-- I just got JSS'd

So I log on to MySpace and see that my band had posted a bulletin right? No biggie, our singer loves to post bulletins. So I click on it and find out that the band is auditioning for bassists. No call, no conversation, no e-mail... a random-assed MySpace bulletin.

I had no clue that I was on any kind of chopping block, there was no warning at all. Yeah, I know this isn't anywhere close to the scale of what happened to JSS or anything (Me in a local band, he being in a world-famous band), but still... this stuff hurts.

Oh well, maybe now I can start up a melodic/progressive rock project...

1. once i approached a potential band member to join my crappy little band.. BUT i told him if he wanted to play he would have to fire the guy he was replacing.. 10 seconds after saying it , we both laughed,, didnt happen..

2. once , to get rid of a band member, the rest of the band decided that we would BREAK UP the band.. and secretly rejoin a month later , but not tell the dude we wanted out.. no guts for sure.. it didnt happen either..

3. the third i dont remember.. :?

This is an old fall-back for us second-tier musicians (not putting you on that list, Larry, just myself). As if the guy we did it to wouldn't know...as if any of his musician friends and contacts wouldn't have known...truly stupid. We even played the same clubs.

That happened to our neighbor, he was a singer in an L.A. band back when there were tons of them on the Strip, & he was looking at ads for musicians wanted one day & saw that his band was looking for a singer  . He said he called them using a different voice, lol, but in the end that's basically how he found out he was axed.

He's a lawyer now

What a bunch of losers. Hell of a coward ass way to dump a band member. Do they have any videos on YouTube? If so, post them here so we can rag on them.

First, PR53 -- really sorry to hear that happened. Your next band will be bigger and even better.

I do have a few, but will save them for another time.

Well, here's a quick one... the last band I was in was an alternative rock band. The two founders of the band tried to make it seem like us other two were "just as much a part of the band" as they, but then they'd pull behind-the-back stunts that really peeved me. Like when we were doing the artwork for a cassette insert (yes, it was that long ago... haha!), I asked about photos, and they said they weren't putting photos in the booklet. But then they did, and it was just them two!

Next, the best show we ever had, I was really interacting with the audience, and it rocked. He would talk, then I would, and the crowd loved us. Later, they had a sit down with me and told me they thought only one person should be interacting with the crowd.

The final nail in the coffin was when we were scrambling to get enough songs together to headline, and it was mentioned during practice by the singer that we might have to play some songs more than once to make up the time. I was floored, and strongly disagreed. It was the next day that they let me go, trying to make it sound as if they were just in a different stage of life than I, instead of simply telling me that they called all the shots, and Tom (the bass player) and I were just supposed to sit back and say "yes".
