do you like the first 3 journey albums before perry joined?

some people love them some refuse to even listen to the pre perry stuff.

my favorite out of the three would be next.

I love the pre-Perry albums. I only have them on vinyl... I should get them on CD soon. "Of a Lifetime" is one of the greatest songs of their career.

Absolutely. In my opinion they are better. Look Into The Future is a classic. Guitars galore!

I haven't given them much thought... I have heard a few things off of Time3, but I don't listen to them.

I really like "People" ... Love the sound..

pre-perry Journey is Journey for me. (but, make no mistake, I am a bonafide, ceritfied loon, also. Journey is just different with Perry-not better not worse-just a different Journey. it's all good)

I love the 1st 3, but JOURNEY is my favorite.

For anyone who thinks those three albums suck, play "Of A Lifetime." That song won me over. Gregg's vocals are haunting, and the guitar solo is some of Schon's best work ever.

The only pre Perry Stuff that I am familar with are the ones that made it on Time3. I need to give those albums a try though.

Spaceman is one of my favorites, as is Nickel And Dime, & cookie duster

the comiskey park version of Next is awesome....

Lots of great stuff from the first three.

The pre-Perry stuff is very cool. I like the heavily progressive / space rock mood they had going, and Schon ripped out some awesome riffs in that time!

I like what someone said, that it IS in fact "A different Journey, no better or worse". I agree with that 100%

When I'm in the mood for it, heck yeah!!!!

I have two of them on cd and one on vinyl. The quality on the latter isn't that great but I'll take what I can get.

Of a Lifetime is by far my favorite. Any song that can get my punk rock brother into Journey is brilliant in my mind.

The debut is among the best progressive rock albums, in my opinion. "Look Into the Future" isn't as good overall and "Next" is more of a hard rock album than it is progressive.

Overall, I'd rate them as follows...

Journey = 8
Look Into the Future = 6.5
Next = 7

Journey- 10
Look into the Future- 8
Next- 7.5

LOVE the self-titled debut, one of my favorite albums of all time.. Affirmed Journey as my favorite band after hearing it all the way through one evening.

We all know music is subjective. To me, the vocals are the most important to a song, the instrumentals supplement the music. That said, I have always liked Gregg Rolie's voice. So I like all the songs he sang on (Saturday Night, Of a Lifetime, Spaceman, She'll be Alright, etc.) There's just too much instrumental and not enough singing on those first 3.

hehe. I think just the opposite but then again I am a flute player. not much singing when I play.

that is quite possibly why I like those 3 better--i.e. more instrumental than vocal. make no mistake, I love Gregg's vocals when they happen.

I agree with the statement that NEXT is moving more towards hard rock. not better or worse--just different. all good. no--all GREAT!!! I really really like the 1st 3 albums.

Good stuff! I like it for different reasons then the Perry journey... but it is very cool.

There's definitely some good stuff on those first three albums, "Of A Lifetime", "Next", "Karma", "Kohoutek" (still one of my favorite instrumentals of all time). Folks should give those albums a chance.

I really never heard of them. Probably Ca did. But the world heard after Perry sang ! How many years before radio play & stadiums 4 ? They were not doing well and that is why Herbie beat them over their heads to get a frontman and the rest is history.

Give it a listen dude, they were fantastic. Nickel and Dime is a great song to start with, from the Next album, I think.

The albums weren't selling, because they weren't written for mass consumption and radio singles. What don't people get about that? The music was the most important thing during this period.

Pre-Perry Journey, is Journey in its purest most artistic form. And it is FANTASTIC.

i love next myself.i had these back in the late eighties and finally someone told me perry started with infinity and these guys had three releases of stuff before steve joined.my older brother heard this music and said man thats pretty good kinda sounds like rollie type vocals with spacy progressive music.i told him it was and that it was journey and they had stuff before steve joined.he said thats some killer music but nobody will believe its journey because they think of perry automatically.of a lifetime is killer too of the first one.i couldn't get into the look into the future album as much as the first journey and next but all of them have their moments.if i made a compilation of stuff by journey i'd start out with three or four songs from this era to get the music started right.by the time wheel in the sky hits stuff like of a lifetime,kohoutek,nickel and dime,spaceman and i would find you plus hustler would get it rolling.think i might make something like that now that i think about it.i think all three are hugely underrated efforts that get left behind because the perry era stuff sold millions and these didn't.

This is the perfect song to sit back put your feet up, crack a big beer open and relax to. Rest of the album is not to bad either.
