All this talk about Journey re doing the classics with Arnel got me thinking.. What if ...(and this is a total pipe dream and then some) Perry somehow was back in the band and they re did Arrival with Perry and put it on the shelves.. Honest to god,I think It would draw old and new fans right back into the fold and it would sell millions.. I really think it would be that good! And I think its great now.. Thoughts...

I don't want to hear Arrival with Perry anymore than I'd want to hear Infinity, et all with Arnel, Augeri, Soto or Santa Claus. Arrival was Augeri's and should remain that way. Has no one here ever even seen Back To The Future, let alone gleaned a message from it?  Leave the past alone. Things happen the way they do for a reason.

I know..it is a stellar album,no matter what some people say.. 'cough' Perry apologists.. But seriously,I know the writing styles are totally diff.. I was saying pipe dream..How would people accept it? If Perry wrote the same songs and sang them?

I guess Saint John beat me to it kind of..

Saint John wrote:
The musicianship on this album is so good that it's hard not to wonder "What if Perry had been the singer on this album?" I think it would have been a huge success. Augeri's vocals are only slightly better than average and the fact that the label made him try so hard to be Steve Perry is showcased as he struggles mightily on several of the songs. Kiss Me Softly is the one song where I think he's completely being Steve Augeri, and it's a great song......unbelievable live. Best song I've ever heard him sing live.

I want to hear Arrival with Steve Augeri singing in his natural voice! Trying to sound like Perry made him sound thinner vocally.

Arrival with Perry on vocals wouldn't be the Arrival you know because he wouldn't sing those songs with those arrangements or those melodies. He would rework it and make it better than it is.

Arrival is a Bad English album, not a Journey album. That's not a bad thing per se, but it doesn't rise to the Journey quality standard I and the majority of their fan base came to love about the group.

I've never heard his natural voice, but I bet I'd like the album better that way. The stretched too thin sound to his voice was always a problem for me.

So where exactly are you getting the majority of the fanbase numbers from? From what I have read in this particular thread, most here seem to be liking the Arrival album just the way it is with a few exceptions to the fact that the record label made SA try and sound like Perry and ruined his natural sound on the album.

Just listen to Tall Stories. There is an edge to his voice but it sounds much more natural.

Arrival is fine. My favorite Journey album in fact.

With Steve Perry on board, you'd wind up with 3-4 throwaway TBF style B-sides and the album would be nowhere near as good.

Augeri did an awesome job. Anyone else, the album just wouldn't be what it is...great.

Arrival doesn't suck, it's just not a Journey album (to me). It's on the level of Bad English which is not as good as Journey. That being said, I'm not a fan of Augeri with Neal. No chemistry and weak if any emotional content. Neal plays guitar like an emotional singer uses his voice. That's why his guitar sounds like an extension of Perry's voice.

Augeri sounded good with Tall Stories because it was just rock music. He's not a melodic singer. He's a rocker. Neal, even when he's trying to rock, plays with strong melodic heart. He needs a singer who understands that.

Whatever.. It sounds nothing like Bad English.. Holy Shit, have you even heard it.. Everybody I know, has said it is totally Journey..And NO..They know its not SP.. Big J is right..You put Perry in the mix and you might as well take out 3-4 good rockers and put 3-4 more elevator songs in there.. It would rock with JSS,but I can't close my eyes and think its right.. Listen to believe in me.. Its sounds really Journey without sounding really Journey without the vocals.. Sorry folks,I would rather have a Perry knockoff to ensure the overall sound than someone who sounds way diff.. Cause if you did that..Then it would be Bad English!
