Nail....Something to hide,Sweet and simple,Winds of march...basically all the one's that no one but Perry can nail.. Would that change your mind about Arnel?

A new album with great songs would change my mind.

Sorry, but No. Perry owns those songs vocally.....so it would just be imitation to me. I don't want somebody that "nails" Perry......nothing unique there. :? They hired somebody that sounds waaaaaay too much like Perry, so truthfully no matter what he sings, it probably won't change my mind.

Imagine that, Journey....of all people....wanting to sound like Journey. I'm with you, the last thing I want when I buy a new Journey CD or see them in concert is for Journey to sound like Journey. Bring back a lead singer that sounds nothing like the classic voice, NOW you're talking!

So in other words, you are saying "Perry" was Journey? Sorry dude, but his imitation of Perry turns me off.

If you like the shit they're doing then go lap it up, but don't belittle someone else's opinion on it just because it disagrees with yours. It just so happens that quite a lot of us feel the way she does.

What would make you think that Journey is gonna perform those songs (even IF Arnel could do them justice)?
They will continue to perform the hits for the "casual fans". Those are the people that buy the overwhelming majority of concert tickets, and most of those people aren't even familiar with most of the non-Greatest Hits.

Any band thats been around as long as Journey, at one point has changed directions here and there. The result may not always be good, but at least it shows they have BALLS to do so!
If you (along side with Neal & Co)think that you rather re-do the old song and keep the same old songs, rather than take a risk and try to develop a new sound, then you can keep Journey .
Im always up for FRESH ideas,,, but its not fresh if you want them to sound like Perry. Fact : Perry is gone, time to move on towards a new directions as they said they were going to, Dec 19th 2006.
By going and finding someone who does cover songs, what they try to feed people is that they cant do anything without Perry or at least making it sound like him. Fuck that !

At the end of the day, you're going to judge "music" with your "ears" not your eyes or your personal feelings toward someone. I'm just not into "I love singer x" or "they did this to singer x", etc, etc. I'm a fan of the music, not the bs that goes on. So when I hear something labeled as "Journey" the closer it is to sounding like the voice style I grew up listening to, the better. Sure I'd rather have SteveP on board, but then again, if it sounds like Journey, tastes like Journey, maybe it's Journey? :) lol...

my opinion is jeremey sounds more like sp than ap does. ap doesn't try to sound like steve perry... he has a soaring voice & can hit the high notes... singing any song... not just covers of journey tunes. the guy is talented in his own right... just like a thp we all know & love. thehehee... arnel = shp. haha. }:C))

anyway... with jss i thought journey sounded like journey... with jeff scott soto. even jss sounds like journey... especially the ballads cd. before journey had a singer they were just instruments... that is their signature sound. jmho... don't shoot me! }:C)

sherrie... people belittle one another daily on this board... where have you been? }:C)

The irony of it all. So many said they didn't like JSS because he didn't sound enough like Journey ie: Perry. Now people are complaining because Arnel sounds too much like Journey ie: Perry!

another irony is some here were so gung ho about jer getting the gig. jer is a sp impersonator... he sounds WAY too much like sp. that was ok tho because he is a friend. }:C\ if arnel came on mr i'm sure a lot of people would grow to like him personally... he seems like a very nice person.

some also say they don't find arnel attractive... well some didn't find jss attractive or steve perry, or augeri... that is just beyond shallow.

Agreed.. I suppose Foreigner should just pack it up with Kelly Hansen.. What if Perry would have been killed in '88'.. Should they just bury the name? Or maybe go forward honoring him.. Seriously ,its a toss up.. I'm pretty sure they are doing this for the casual fan.. Texafana is right.. Its not for Something to hide or Winds of March..Its for mainstream, and fans that just want more Journey..Like me.. I love it all.

Look Tree, I have nothing personal against you, but I'm getting a bit tired of having my friendship with Jeremey thrown in my face and I'm sure several of his other friends are too. I don't have to explain myself, my choices or my preferences in frontmen to you or anyone else. I like what I like and I don't like what I don't like, and I say so. That's it. You don't have to like it and I don't have to explain or apologize for it. Now like I told Texafana:

ohsherrie wrote:If you like the shit they're doing then go lap it up, but don't belittle someone else's opinion on it just because it disagrees with yours.

I don't understand all this he sounds too close to Perry. Good lord, this guy is no where near the same league. Just because he can hit the notes doesn't make him like Perry. He doesn't have the intonation and phrasing that is totally unque to Perry.

Then there is the "X" Factor. Very few people posses it. It is what seperates the good from the TRULY GREAT. In the age of IDOL and it's ilk, we have been sold the false idea that everyone can and should be a star. Because of this, our ideas on talent has been watered down to the low common denominator. Paris Hilton's recording and movie deals. Any questions?

It's not important if he can nail Perry's songs (except to the casual fan who's only going to concerts to hear the GH's). If that's their goal, then Journey is what Caveman said he didn't want to be involved with: a nostalgia act.

What's important is if the band, fronted by Arnel, can originate new material with his own voice without copying Perry's unique styling. If the rest of the band can't be themselves and succeed with a singer who is being original without emulating Perry, then they're a joke. They're doing nothing more than riding Perry's talent.

It would be like a modern painter learning how to paint exactly like DaVinci. Would an art buyer want to own the copy or the original?

For this reason, I'm happy they didn't go with Hunsiker. He's talented and I'm sure he's a nice guy, but for the band to be considered legitimate without Perry, they need to stop trying to clone Perry's sound. Otherwise, they're just reinforcing that Journey was Steve Perry.

It's about a lot more than hitting high notes, but there are some people, apparently including Frig and Fro, who just don't seem to get that.

It's their loss as far as I'm concerned. They're missing out on the best part of the joy of listening to Perry sing.
