From the Caveman's Diary

Apologies if this has already been posted....

- Just got back from Vegas last night, after mixing seven new Journey songs. They are outstanding. Here's the press release below. For the record, I think Arnel is "the business!" the guy can really sing! He handles the ballads with SO much heart, and belts the rockers as hard, and melodically, as anyone I have heard. The songs are sensational - wonderfully crafted and deep, and so focused, you may wonder where they all came from. And I'm being serious....... off to the airport again.... to London to see Zep. -

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit excited about hearing new music. :)

I'm not sure it is excitement but it sure has my curiosity peaked.

Well, what do we expect KS to say? They suck? He has been HIRED to do a job and he has to make it sound as good as he can. Expect the p.r. machine to be in full swing, and be ready to sift through all the bullshit.

No...if he didn't like them he wouldn't have to say anything. He's posting this on his blog. It's not like it's an interview with a newspaper. He doesn't have to keep bringing up these sessions with Journey. Sure, Journey PR could have asked him to post a little something. But if he didn't believe what he was saying, he would have left it at that. I think all of these subsequent postings bode well for the new music. Just my $0.02.

I agree with illini on this one. The blog is just Kevin's diary and nothing more. I'd guess that only a handful of people read it on a daily basis so it's far from "promoting" the band. It's, just KC thinking out loud. I'm curious to hear the new material as well.

Nope sorry SJ not this time. It is a diary, but a public diary. Once placed onto the world wide web, it becomes public domain. That said, you cannot tell me KS is not posting things like that knowing full well that it is out there for public consumption. Don't think for a second that Journey's PR people don't know that too.

Yeah...it's out there for public consumption because it's how he feels. I'm not buying that his postings about the new Journey album are propaganda. He's not answering questions for a newspaper interview.

So Kevin, tell us how you feel about the new Journey album.
"Well, I think it's a solid album. We've really worked hard on it and I think fans are going to enjoy the final product."

This is not a static, recycled answer to a question from a reporter. These are just Shirley's feelings, for his fans and people who want to see what he's up to. Not buying that Journey told him to post something about the album every two weeks or so.

Of course it's for "public consumption" but it's just random thoughts...nothing more. Journey has Wal Mart and Azoff's check book behind them. Kevin Shirley's diary has been there for a while and he jots down tidbits of information as they occur. He posted himself peddling through South America a few months back. Surely you don't think the "South American Department Of Tourism" paid him for that, do you? It's a diary, folks. When they want to promote this upcoming tour there will be bigger outlets than an obscure blog/diary.

Not asking you to buy it. Is my perspective and OPINION of it. While different than yours, doesn't mean it's right or wrong.

They all said things similar to this about Generations. We all know how well Generations did. Still NOT interested.

From what I have seen/read/heard from and about Kev, and don't get me wrong when I say this, he loves to toot his own horn.

And why shouldn't he ........he is very talented.

I figured he would be the first person we would get some confirmation from ....... he loves to be the one to drop the dime.

His diary entries do just that.

I'd love to, but don't think that will happen. Who knows...maybe I'll get an advance (liek I do with most releases), or maybe I'll be buying it off the store shelf with everyone else. At this point I don't know.

Long's he sings what he's told to and lets Schon/Cain handle the writing/music they may pull this off.

What does he mean by "you may wonder where they all came from. And I'm being serious"?

Is he implying something there? Like Perry had a hand in it? Or the songs have been around since Perry and NOW they can use them?

Things that make you go hmmm.

Could just mean "I'm being serious about the things I've said about these sessions, because I know you're thinking that I'm just blowing smoke." Nothing like dissecting the words on a blog written by a man I've never met.

Perhaps, or the music impressed him so much he felt he had to add that. He's knows it'll end up on these J forums so he adds a little umph to the statement.

It's a coded message:

Shirley? He can't be serious.
