Robert Plant Gets It

I just listened to an interview with James Young from Styx and a local DJ. JY went on to say how Plant was dead against an extended tour. HOWEVER, after last night and after the response internationally, he feels like there's a certain emotional obligation to give this to the fans. That Zeppelin needs to exit a certain way because of the role they've played in the lives of their fans. He gets it. He knows they have to exit properly. They have, as a band, a responsibility to their fans, to their craft and to themselves, to end this thing right. They will no doubt be touring North America and other parts of the world soon. I will personally be going to see these guys because of their sentiments. I've never liked their music, but it isn't too late to win me over and there's no better way to do that than live. I wish Robert Plant would have a talk with Steve Perry. Thoughts?

Journey has provided 3 decades of good music. We have our money's worth.

Agreed as well. I just don't think that Perry or anyone else "owes" it to us as fans. If Robert Plant feels that he has a debt to repay, I am all for it.

Same with Perry. If he feels that he owes us more music, I will be fighting to be first in line to buy it. He provided great music during his time with Journey and made an enourmous amount of money from the fans (me included). If he doesn't, I certainly got my money's worth the first time around.

I would love to see them tour over here, as I wont be seeing Journey. Jimmy Page kicks Neals ass anyway. He has grey hair and doesent use botox ,but he is a much more creative guitar player then Neal ,more technics,and different styles in his playing.I thought they sounded great

Tj, I agree that Steve Perry doesn't "owe" us anything. That said, I'm tired of everyone whining about the "legacy" and Journey running it into the ground. Sorry folks, but this band apparently wasn't fronted by someone with the stones between his legs to put the past behind like the Eagles did, Van Halen did, Zeppelin did, Genesis did, and The Police did. The "legacy" would have been solidified if he simply honored his commitment to tour. Instead, he trumped up an injury, or at worst exploited it, to scurry back home and pet his cats. If anyone has no respect for the legacy it's the guy that disappeared during Trial By Fire only to resurface on Behind The Music with ridiculous statements like "I never felt like part of the band" and "Don't crack the stone." What utter bullshit. You think these guys aren't perfectionists? You think they're not a bit hesitant about not sounding like they did 20-30 years ago? Of course they're hesitant. They just have the balls to end things right and to cement the "legacy" so many of you speak of.

Hmmmm...then i wonder why Journey had a problem with it. Good decision, nonetheless. Block him at every pass just like he has done to Journey for the better part of 20 years. Bravo Journey.

His "legacy" ended with an unfinished tour, suspicious injuries and "gag orders." His stone is far from uncracked, especially since his last disappearing act came on the heels of an almost 10 year layoff. It's also painfully obvious that the 1996 album and false tour hopes where nothing more than one selfish man's inability to let Journey move forward.

The fact that Herbie Herbert knew BEFORE the hip injury that Perry wasn't going to tour and the fact that he made everyone sign "gag orders" leads me to believe that there is some sort of truth he's trying to suppress. Couple that with the ridiculous remarks he made on Behind The Music and you've uncovered someone being less than honest.
