Has anyone else here ever had a kidney stone?

I've never had one before but I woke up feeling sick to my stomach this morning at about 4:30. Tried to go to the bathroom and just couldn't do anything. By the time I got back in bed, I felt much worse and we ended up leaving for the emergency room around 6:30 and spent about five hours there. Anyway, I have a kidney stone that is on the borderline size-wise to be able to pass it on my own. Otherwise, they will have to go in and bust it up.

I've personally never experienced kidney stones but have been told by those who have that it's VERY painful! Good luck with that!

My husband gets them. He just had a 7mm sized one and they had to do 2 surgeries to bust his up. It's pretty miserable from what I observed!! Good luck to you!!! Hopefully it will pass on it's own. Use your pain killers! They actually insert a stint and then they do an exterior sonic surgery to break it up if it won't pass.

WOW been there done that ...when I went in the nurse told me she'd rather give birth to twins then deal with what I was about to go through!!Sit down hang on and go for the ride ...it's going to be a bumpy one!!!

Maybe I shouldn't tell this, but.... I was in the hospital once drinking barium and getting x-rayed every 30 minutes. I was there for about 4 hours. 2 of those 4 hours, I was made to listen to some womans moaning and groaning down the hall. It sounded like she was dying. She kept moaning "Oh lawdy" over and over and loud. So I asked the nurse what was wrong with her and she said it was a kidney stone. I hope the hell I never get one.

Take the pain meds dude.

My best friend and my wife have both dealt with them. I've never seen em in such agonizing pain....

Good luck with passing the stones!

After you get the stones out, you should talk with your physician about making some lifestyle/diet changes to prevent them from coming back (i.e. cutting out soda, etc)

Not had one myself but have lots of exp. in this area. My former had a recurring problem, many lithotripsy treatments and one surgical procedure (due to a stone just short of golf ball size). The ESWL ('blasting') is really not that big a deal. It's a very simple, non-invasive procedure which pulverizes the stone into basically dust. Translation: it won't hurt coming out.

My sister had one last year that she passed on her own without feeling ANYthing.
I couldn't believe that she didn't feel a thing because of all the stories I've heard.

Look up "ESWL" (extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy) on google... you'll get links explaining more about it.

I remember Abitaman posting about a kidney stone he was dealing with awhile back. Anyway you didn't have a laptop you could take to the hospital with you? OS and BJG tried ganging up on me in the Robert Plant thread. I shot down their arguments with some excellent facts which they promptly ignored. You need to stop thinking about yourself dude!

Right in time for Christmas. Well needless to say you'll never ever forget this Christmas for the rest of your life. Dam God must have a friggin hardon for you dude! If that happened to me....I guarantee you I wouldn't forget it and when I'm standing before him on judgement day, I'd kick God square in the nuts for that one!

Yep. Percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Look that up to and pray you never need to have it.

I felt so bad this morning that I actually thought I might have cancer or something like that. The pain was a little higher than I thought it would be for a kidney problem but that's what it turned out to be.

I'm still a bit sick to my stomach but I feel quite a bit better.

I had one once and decided we were never doing THAT again!!!

It really and truly is the worst pain I have ever experienced

As my doctor said as he was sending me off to the hospital "You're going to get some really good drugs!!"

Thankfully I have never had another one. Mine was the result of dehydration - I still had pain that made me sweat!!

Men I think have more of a problem - get it attended to and take care of yourself!!!

Isn't this caused in part by dehydration?

Usually the stone takes a while to form before you feel it. It's not something that happens overnight. They tell you do drink less soda and coffee and more water to avoid them.

In my case, it's probably too much Coke, Pepsi, etc. The dark sodas, in other words.

I'm not sure why pain pills would slow down the passing? Are you sure about that one?? I can't imagine going through that without them.
