OT: My Son Is JDrums.

PostPosted: Fri Dec 14, 2007 2:09 am

Well, I've just been schooled by my son. Anyway, he's a drummer in Tx and they're putting together a Journey band. He posted a snip of them playing the other day and one of the mods noticed we had the same ip address. 2 computers on the same internet service results in the same ip addy incase you didn't know. Well, I know at some point he wants to talk about his band here so I just wanted to come out and tell everyone now, that Jdrums is my son. So now you guys know I'm probably the oldest one in this place. Ironically, the band he's in he's also the oldest. ;) Oh well, some of you may care, but I'm sure this should be filed under "posts that waste time and space".

Isn't it a shame when you feel it neccesary to make a post like this. No one should care that you and your son are both posting from the same computer/network. Hell, no one should even know!

Sorry this board has become that type of place...

Most importantly, texafana, you have a very talented son who blew many of us away with his clip. You must be a proud papa! :P

Alright Larry, here's the procedure.

Click Start, then Run. Type CMD and click Ok.

What is called a DOS window will open. You will see a blinking cursor at the end of a command line that looks something like this.

C:\Documents and Settings\Larry>

At that point type ipconfig and press Enter.

You will see your IP Address listed in the results. Mine is 78.187.42.105

If you are using a router, then the procedure above will only echo the local IP, which would be something like 192.168.0.1 and that's not what we're looking for.

If you are using a router, the booklet that came with the router will tell you how to log into the router using Internet Explorer, and there you can find your real IP address.

In Rick's case, his LAN card is carrying his Internet IP (hope it's firewalled, Rick! :P ). But in most cases, your router will have it, and that command will not work. Easy to figure out your WAN IP, though -- go to:

www.whatismyip.com

or

www.ipchicken.com

:P

By the way, Larry -- do you have OnStar in your vehicle? We can track you that way... :P

Yeah, I'm covered by the routers firewall and the Windows firewall. I'd like someone I know that knows how to hack to try to get in and see if they could though.

I don't know anyone personally that could, unless you had remote management enabled on the router and a weak password. :P The main danger is attack from within by a malicious download.

The night is black, without a moon.
The air is thick and still.
The vigilantes gather on
The lonely torchlit hill.

Features distorted in the flickering light,
Faces are twisted and grotesque.
Silent and stern in the sweltering night,
The mob moves like demons possesed.
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right,
Confident their ways are best.

The righteous rise
With burning eyes
Of hatred and ill-will.
Madmen fed on fear and lies
To beat and burn and kill.

They say there are strangers who threaten us,
Our immigrants and infidels.
They say there is strangeness to danger us
In our theatres and bookstore shelves,
That those who know whats best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves.

Quick to judge,
Quick to anger,
Slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand.

Tell Jdrums to post some more music, book a gig, then let us know where they're playing. They're good.

No need to memorize it -- if you are using a home Internet connection, chances are you have "dynamic IP", which means your IP address changes every time your modem or router loses power and reconnects. Another reason tracking IP's is not so easy, unless you have a "static IP" (assigned to you -- never changes), or you are the Internet service provider and have records of which IP addresses were assigned to which users at what time. That's the kind of stuff law enforcement does to catch perps.

Thanks for understanding and the comments. I figured what the hell, come clean now, I have nothing to hide. Mods know my IP because it's stable and not going to change, no use in trying to hide anything. I'm doing my best not to plug my son's band, mainly because I'm sure he'll do it himself in time, they've had some ups and downs in the vocal department. It's weird having a son playing in a tribute band who's music made such an impact on myself. I will say this, put Jeremey's vocals in front of this group and it would just about be close to the real deal. Anyway, this forum has gone to hell and back a few times the past few days, lots of stuff to catch up on. :)

Ouch, did you just diss the lead singer as being the weakest link in your son's band or were you just complimenting Jeremey? Arnel will do just fine.
