Been waiting on the new CD for a while, and didn't realize it had been released a freaking month ago! Just got back with my copy and am listening to it now. Does anyone else have it, and if so, what do ya think? I think it's great gym music.

Great beats, mainly electronic... easy to get in a rhythm to.

I know it doesn't have Andy Taylor and Andrew panned it.

Still planning on buying it here, but who IS the guitarist on it?

Not sure... Heck, it could be all electronic guitar! (except for the bass, which is pretty prominent throughout). My favorite track so far is "Skin Divers", but I've been hearing clips from that song for a few months now, so I'm most familiar with it.

I liked their reunion album a lot. Best thing they did in a long time. I heard these samples and they sound WAAAAY too hip hop for my taste. The drum machines, the harmonies. Uhg... I was really disappointed and opted not to buy.

Complete and utter shite. The band will never make another album after this. Bless Andy Taylor for getting out while he could.

PS. I am a real fan of this band, but they have released the odd clunker in their time. PPS. Andy Taylor solo RULES!

Well, I did notice on the making of clips that they mentioned how "quickly" many of these songs came together in the studio. I had the impression they just went in with a blank slate and tossed them together. I wasn't really impressed by that. I do like some of the songs, though they are nothing like "Astronaut" (which was a brilliant album). But they will be back... I just don't want to see them disintegrate again to the point they were at with "Medazzaland" (good album, but only Simon & Nick?)

Damn straight! I've owned several copies of "Thunder", and love it as one of my favorites, along of course with "Power Station". Loved his work w/Rod Stewart, too. Did you ever hear the 2nd Power Station CD that came out around 10-11 years ago? If so, what did you think? I could NOT get into it, because I missed that sound... Interesting how Robert Palmer ripped off the Power Station sound for many of his follow up CD's.

What, Medazzaland didn't do it for you :?: :)

I'm up for a Powerstation reunion (well, quasi anyway) with Andy Taylor and Michael Desbarsess.

Wow, 2 members of PS are dead, aren't they? DesBarres(sp) only filled in at Live Aid, right?

He cut at least 1 track studio and fronted some concerts.

Here was that 2nd Power Station disc I mentioned -- I remember not caring for it very much, and their classic sound was gone:

Hate to part with ya on this one, Andrew, but I wanted to give the disc several spins thru before commenting further on it. I think it's not a bad disc at all (though very different from "Astronaut"), and I seriously doubt it will be their last.

I think the biggest criticism to be made is that it sounds very much like a "canned", rather than a "band", album. The bulk of the music is straight-up modern disco, with many songs sounding completely computer-generated. So is most pop music these days... But, several of the songs are quite catchy. I think my favorites are the opening track "The Valley", "Nite Runner", and "Skin Divers", with several other catchy tunes. The only one I absolutely despise is track 8, "Tricked Out" (a short instrumental -- should have been left off the disc). To me, the rest is at least quite listenable, if not ultra memorable.

Another thing I have to disagree with ya on -- they've done tons of great stuff without Andy, (though they ultimately are at their best with him in the band). Yes, they've released some stinkers, but they put out plenty of good stuff with Warren Cuccurullo and others. They'll be back, dude...

Good on ya Rip.
Glad you are enjoying it. Not for this drongo though :)
