Question

I consider myself a passionate Journey fan -- be it the Perry-era, Augeri-era, Soto-era, or the soon-to-be Arnel-era -- I've always considered the whole to be greater than its individual parts; Journey > Steve Perry, Journey > Neal Schon, Journey > Jonathan Cain. Granted, Neal and company's decency for treating JSS and SA leaves something to be desired, but as I said in my first post: Journey's a rock band, not a crash course for business ethics.

Question: why do so many people seem to have this unnatural hatred for Arnel? I mean, no offense, but I see no reason for it. He's not responsible for JSS's departure. He's not the reason Perry has retired. He's not responsible for the betrayal of Augeri. I question the reasons behind the anti-Arnel movement here, and -- while I can understand, perhaps disliking the way the man sings -- some people around here seem to hate the guy as a human being.

Why?

To be honest, it's beyond obsessive. It screams "instability!"

Just looking for some insight and enlightenment. Let's not flame. :)

I don't hate Arnel, I am thoroughly disgusted with Frick and Frack. I just think Arnel isn't right for Journey. But then again, I am done with Journey. It is a shell of what it once was.

This isn't a question directed at everyone, nor is it intended to discriminate. I'm simply curious as to the reason behind the thoughts of those who do feel that way about Arnel. I believe that those who are so hellbent on slandering him and bashing him (as if he raped and murdered their children) have no reason to do so, and I'd appreciate their posts. It'll confirm or deny the hypothesis I've arrived at.

Though, like I said, Arnel's more vocally fit for Journey than either Augeri or JSS.

1) I don't have any "unnatural hatred" for Arnel as he hasn't done anything but accept a job offer just as Perry, Augeri and Soto did before him.

2) There was no "Soto era." He did a tremendous job of helping them fulfill their touring obligations and went on to front a very successful European mini-tour, but being cut loose so soon and no officially recorded material probably makes the word "era" quite a stretch.

Journey is like the KIA or YUGO of rock bands at this point.

Not even close to be a Chevy or Ford.

Would take SP to be Lexus etc.

I'm aware, SJ. As I said, this question was not posed or directed towards everyone, but rather those who share this mentality. I don't like to toss out names, because I'm new to these forums and I don't like to assume, but if one is required, I would have to say AR is one such member whom I'd like to ellicit a testimony from.

"Tenure", then? :)

Excuse the double post, please.

The issue regarding Steve Perry's involvement in Journey is another complex one that I'd like to discuss; he still possesses substantial range, power, and control in his voice now (and it could likely be improved if he committed himself to an active regimen), but the truth is that he really doesn't seem to have the power that he used to have. I'd safely wager that Arnel outstrips him there, though the massive age disparity between the two is likely the reason. My love for Perry notwithstanding, I wouldn't want to see him fronting Journey -- period -- unless he could perform up to par.

1/100 of SP is better than 100% of fucking Arnel. End of Story.

Edit: Thank you for the convincing argument, Dcvader. Jesus Christ, is it impossible to get a good debate started around here without people assuming that their word is supposed to be akin to God's?

An unfortunate overflow of displaced agression and some honest to God opinions. People here are very passionate. That's part of the charm.

You consider those unsupported, vicious rants an extension of mere passion? Odd. It seems to hint at unnecessary anger and outrage towards a topic that -- in the grand scheme of things -- is irrelevant to one's life. Even the most diehard fan.

I appreciate the response.

Arnel is a four foot tall karoake singer that another midget supposedly found off youtube (bullshit)

If you want to follow a 3rd lead singer in as many years, that is your perrogative. Did Led Zeppelin scour some backwards country that doesn't have a stable government to find someone who could sing Communication Breakdown the other night? Nope. They just played other tunes.

Arnel is a ridiculous and embarasing choice. He has a nice voice, but ZERO stage presence, and he can't even pronounce the lyrics. Perry, Augeri and Soto were able to be rock frontmen. They all brought something to the table to varying degrees. The new hire to me is an abvious yes man duped into helping Neal milk another tour. Arnel will not be established like Augeri nor push them to do something intersting like JSS. He's a dupe that can sort of parrot Perry's high notes but without the emotion or pronunciation. This is a sad grab at a final paycheck or two and I will call out anyone that says otherwise.

You asked, I answered.

Clearly, reading comprehension isn't a friend of yours. I'm not criticizing or downplaying your opinion. I'd merely like some justification for it. Perhaps we can discuss it later?

Very enlightening. I'm tempted to debate it with you, just to gauge your opinion a bit further. Would you object?

Justification of what? Journey IS A JOKE! I mean, come on, 3 singers in what, a year? Two? And one was found on You Tube? Do you realize how silly that is? How low they have become in their opinions about their fans? And I don't doubt for one minute that Journey is the laughingstock of the music biz. This whole thing has clearly shown me that they don't have much business sense anymore. They should hang it up.

I have stong opinions on everything. Usually I get attacked and go into seek and destroy mode . However, you asked about something politely and that is more than fair. We'll discuss it tomorrow.
