At last count, I own over 300 movies. The vast majority are classics, 1950s and older. Very rarely if ever will I buy a movie from our common time. Recent exception to that rule, Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds because a. I like the 1950s version and b. it was only $5 at Walmart.

Prefer B & W to color. Believe it or not, everything is much sharper without the distraction of color. The Ghost and Mrs. Muir with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison being one example.

I do however like old technicolor and 2 strip technicolor, think Gone With The Wind and Mystery at the Wax Museum (predeseccor to Vincent Price's House of Wax). I also love 1955's Love is a Many Splendored Thing, which again is shot in the old color process.

Prefer old horror to new horror. Old horror relied more on plot and the state of people's psyche. Psycho, The Shining, Cat People, I Walked With A Zombie.... New horror, to me anyways just serves to shock. Though I have never seen the SAW series, I don't understand why people want to see such things much less allow their children to see them. I understand that these things happen, but in these films there seems to be a glorification of the sicko to the point of god-dum. In these situations victims change from human beings to caged animals awaiting their fate for the hang man's sick pleasure.

A lot of the new movies that I do like aren't new at all, they're remakes. This weekend's I Am Legend starring Will Smith, which is a remake of the Omega Man starring Charleton Heston which is a remake of the original and imo, best of the three, Last Man on Earth starring Vincent Price.

At my worst, I bought 5 movies a week. Now I'm down to one. lol. Oh well, for some people it's video games, for me it's movies.

I used to collect dvd's but with Netflix and BB online, got rid of most 'cept faves. Do have 1983 Journey on LD somewhere around here. Still have the LD player as well. Haven't used it in 5 years though!

I have found some old movies for a dollar either at Wal-Mart or the Dollar Tree stores. Sometimes at either store, you can find some gems. I have found some really off the wall Sci-Fi black and white movies, or some horror movies. I have found some very early movies by actors we still see today. It is fun looking thru the dollar racks, but you must have some time set aside to do a thorough search. Wal-Mart here has a big rack of them, and depending on the Dollar Tree store, their rack isn't as big.

If I had the time, and knew of the schedule, TCM has some great old movies on it. Sometimes I watch it on Sunday nights to check out the imports. Or on Friday's, they have The Underground, which shows cult movies. :D

That's unfortunate because most people prefer big racks.

True, but small racks are more "managable."

Big racks are usually just full of useless fluff anyway.

Dollar Tree around here has been a bust for me. Mostly they stock old cartoons. I've found some okay dollar movies at Walmart though. Sometimes the local drug store too. Finding something that is watchable is like a needle in a hay stack. Sometimes the quality is pristine. Sometimes though the color or picture is so messed up you're blind for a week.

Yeah, and sometimes they slosh!  Or so I've been told by the one's who had them done.

The Dollar Tree stores around here mostly have movies, and a bit of cartoons. I am waiting until after Christmas to see what Wal-Mart would have in dollar movies, since they took the rack to the back area.

I have been lucky so far as to the quality of the pictures, but a few had some sound problems, in which someone forgot to turn up the volume. What I was excited about recently was finding "Last Man On Earth" with Vincent Price. That is one of my fave horror movies.

I still have a stack of movies I need to watch someday..........

I had about 200 VHS movies and then the DVD's came out . So I started a DVD collection . By the time I had collected over 600 DVD's, the damn Bluray Discs come out... so back to square one. I have around 20 Bluray discs now and dont even want to know what new format will come out next once I have built up my Bluray collection. I guess I will never catch up ( or learn my lesson!)

a younger girl living in an older world.. i like this!!! love those old movies.. not all of them are dumb westerns or dancing, or overacting drama... there was some great entertainment in between 1933-1950's...

I'm not a movie collector, and it kind of drives me crazy that my daughter has a bunch of videos that she refuses to part with. The girl won't get rid of her Teletubbies and Sesame Street videos! Such a pack rat!

I was up to about 500 VHS tapes when DVD came out on the market. Now, between movies and TV season sets, I think I'm around 300 DVDs. I refuse to buy a blu-ray or HD-DVD player, though.

I know what you mean, Scot! The only reason I started collecting the damn blurays is cause I bought a PS3 which plays bluray.

Yeah, I don't have a PS3, so no problem there. I do have an Xbox 360, which suits me fine.
