OT: Happy Rush Day!!

Postby ProgRocker53 » Fri Dec 21, 2007 4:18 pm

It's 12-21!

At 21:12 (9:12 PM) I'm stopping whatever I'm doing and listening to 2112 in its entirety.

Celebrate today with the music of one of the greatest bands of all time, Rush!

Dude!

Aside from KISS "Destroyer" (which my parents bought me in 4th grade, and regretted ever since), Rush "2112" was my first rock album. The first songs I learned to play on guitar were from 2112, too. Haven't stopped rocking ever since. :P

I was so into "2112" when I first got it... I've wondered many times if I would appreciate it as much if I just heard it today for the first time, as much as music has changed since then.

I can thank Rush for learning how to use full 5 or 6-string barre chords, instead of just these wimpy little 2-3 finger power chords. Alex Lifeson is one of the most unique, and one of my favorite, guitarists of all time.

I flat out wore grooves into the vinyl of my first copy of 2112.

Absolutely! And for a while, Queensryche was good intelligent rock, too, until they seem to have become a little to self-important and just lost it...

But Rush... Hey, you know, somewhere online is a great Rush F.A.Q. that answers all these little silly questions fans have had over the years. You know, back then they just seemed so mysterious, and people were always trying to figure out what Neil's lyrics meant and stuff. And other little things like, "What does, "Brought to you by the letter 'M' mean in their album credits"... tons of stuff like that. If you haven't seen it, I'll be happy to try to dig up the link.

LOL! Well, I'm afraid my growth may be stunted there for a while... 1000 posts in just a few months speaks for itself... :P

Part of my New Year's resolution is to quit spending so much time on the Internet, and I'm sure the wife will be glad to know about that...

Man, all those live DVD's are just incredible... A friend of mine loaned me a few recently and I watched them all. I do have the "Rush In Rio" DVD, but he loaned me a few more, including "R30". Great stuff!

Didn't Rush recently release a DVD of classic concerts (70's and 80's)?
I remember hearing something about it, but haven't seen it.
Anyone know anything about this?
