Maybe you had to hear those songs for the first time in 1978.

Now even if I've grown a little tired of hearing them, Lights, Wheel In The Sky, they are still sentimental favorites.

The Journey song that I wonder what all the fuss is about is Be Good To Yourself. Love Neals guitar in the song but the lyrics not so much.

Why Can't This Night Go On Forever

Sounds like a hey-guys-we-need-a-"Journey"-ballad-for-this-album-let's-write-one moment

Suzanne

Never could get into that one.

"Still They Ride" - it took me awhile to even be able to listen to that.
I can listen now but... it's too slow. Great vocals, but that kind of goes without saying, so that aside... meh.

That's an easy one for me! Open Arms! The song plain SUCKS, and always has! It's the most soul-less, bubble gum, nauseating pop song that I've ever heard in my life! As much as I've always believed that Faithfully is the most perfect ballad ever written...Open Arms might be the worst! I've also never cared for Any Way You Want It! That song simply grates on my nerves!

Are you on meth? Of all their tunes, this might be the best penned tune. There is actually a message in BGTY. Hell, 90% of Journey songs are about love, fucking and breaking up. BGTY actually is about something serious. YOU figure out what it is.

BGTY came out when I was horribly burnt out with nursing - the lyrics really hit home.

"When you can't give no more,
They want it all, but you gotta say no..."

Great lyrics!

Let me help you out because you aren't deft enough to figure it out.

BGTY is Perry's departure song.

I know that. Still don't like it as a song although I have sympathy for the message in it.

...except that Cain claims to have been the one who wrote all the lyrics to that because Perry "never had time."

If you think about it, BGTY has it all..Superb vocals(of course because SP), killer keyboard, killer guitar, killer melodic vocals, killer hook. The only thing about BGTY as well as any other song on that record, is the drum machine gives it a dry sound.

Prog, let me help you in structuring a cuss out sentence.

You wrote: I fucking HATE "Open Arms." God DAMN.

It doesn't quite flow. Try this:

Goddammit, I hate that fuckin' piece of shit Open Arms!

See, I was able to work in "shit" too!

Haha! I had it written out similar to that, but I figured my way of saying it emoted my disgust for the song in a much better fashion. Thanks for the pointer though, broski.

Send her my Love and Who's crying now are outstanding. Emotional lyrics and vocal delivery coupled with cinematic instrumentals. What's not to like?

Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin' and Wheel in the Sky are just fun songs. The kind that make you try your best to hit the high notes with Perry and play air guitar with Schon.

To each his own I guess, but I love all of those songs.

Either one works for me - I am sick to death of that song. The only thing that made it bearable recently was Deen singing it.

As for BGTY, I think it is a great song with a grest message. Even as a "farewell" from Perry, it is still a good idea to remember to take of yourself - no one else will. :D

Wow, I love all those ballads that are mentioned here as being despised. I cannot think of 1 ballad that SP ever sang that didn't resonant with me. Now, I can agree about Suzanne and Anyway You Want It doing nothing for me.

BGTY

Someone asked about the lyrics to BGTY just recently, and I remember Deano started a great thread dissecting it some time earlier in the year. I tried to find it to bring it back, but no luck. Can someone else try, it's a great read for the newbies.

I was going to say I don't know what all the fuss was about "Back talk", but then I remembered...there wasn't any!

I have to say, after playing in Frontiers, I no longer like "Lights" or "Stay awhile". Guess I'm just burnt on them! They weren't my favorites to begin with. Also don't care too much for "Anyway you want it". I'm sure several on here will disagree, but I just don't like it that much.

I am not crazy about anything on the second side of "Frontiers." It's like they were trying too hard to keep up with songs like "Mr. Roboto" (which sucks out LOUD by the way). "Rubicon" is particularly dreadful, as is "Back Talk." I'll take "Open Arms" over that crap any day.

I think it's the repetition of the lines and the songs going nowhere. But, then, any SP-sang and Neal-played song has redeeming quality :)

Yes, a lot of hardcore fans love Frontiers, but I don't particularily like the 2nd side, either. Just average songs to me. Escape is their singular masterpiece--all rocking, memorable songs.

BGTY is a great song, especially at this time of the year with all the craziness around us. I would have to agree about Open Arms, it doesn't tend to want to put me to sleep.
