Hey everyone,

Hope you're all enjoying time with friends and family through the holidays! I just finished a rough mix of a brand new song I wrote yesterday, and a few of you have asked me for it, so here it is!

The song's called "Melinda", after my better half. It's VERY melodic, and think many of you will like it! Check it out...

Thank you! yeah, I definitely went with a Survivor feel with this song. I'm going to re-record the lead vocals tommorrow. Gotta give my voice a break! I'm glad you like it.

Curious, when you post your song here are you looking for feedback about the quality of the song ranging from performance to structure or just basically a "like it" or "don't like it" comment?

I'm always up for constructive criticism, but you have to realize that these songs are just demos. Once I take them into a studio with a live drummer, the dynamics will definitely change! Also, there's so many things I'd like to do with them, but as the only musician on them I'm pretty limited. Let me know if you have suggestions though!

Nice, Jim. It'll be interesting to see what you do to it to finish it up. The only thing I noticed that (of course in my uneducated opinion) might use some tweaking is the monotonish (not sure if that is the right word for it) voice quality. Maybe I heard it that way because the instrumentation isn't all there yet.

I did like it though!

Thanks! Yeah, I'm no lead singer. I'll be having Alex work on recording the vocals tommorrow. :D

Nice job! Did you play the guitar solo on your keyboard? I have a Yamaha Motif that has some nice guitar patches. Were the drums also programmed? I have a Hart electronic set with a Roland module and the drums sound fantastic both live and recorded. What are you using for software? I am using Sonar 6 Producer Edition. Sorry for the techie questions but I like the overall sound you achieved. Whatever you did it sounds excellent.

Thanks RockitRide!

Yes, I played everything on my keyboards. I play my guitar solos on my Korg Karma. I have a Yamaha Motif ES6, but now record strictly with my Motif XS8. I don't program any of my drums, I manually play them, and record 1 track at a time.

I don't use ANY software for recording...I use a Korg D16XD recorder to dump all of my songs down, and record vocals on it. I eventually would like to jump into computer based recording, but what I have works for now.

I've been listening to the new song, and really don't like my vocals on it! Alex is actually recording his vocals on it as I type this. As soon as I get his version, it'll replace mine on my myspace. Again, thank you, and good luck with your music! Maybe we could collaberate on something one day? Take care,

Jim

Working on some new stuff now. We expect to have a Website up within a few months. (Our lead singer also plays in a Skynard tribute band. Check out some of his live vocals at smokinsouthband.com. Rick is a great singer and a great guy as well. His band is hot too.) I will keep an eye on your site and I will send you something as soon as possible.
