I'm a fan of Arrival, but to me, everything since (with the exception of Dean's 2 songs on Generations) has sucked. I REALLY disliked Red13 with the exception of this song..."Walking away from the edge". I think it's definitely a jem placed on the wrong cd. I think this should have made Arrival. It's a really dark song, but I love it.

ahhh yes yes yes, skipped over all of Red 13 (all 3 songs) so listen to this one. I love it, a moody, eary, ballad. Would to hear a live version of this song one day, not that we ever will.

TBH there are quite a few songs that i would like to of been re worked, a few from Generations also that i think could be great songs if they had better production

You mentioned the darkness of mother father, i love the song, particually live, but aklways found myself dissapointed by the chorus "dont you know that . . " etc. The verse i think is amazing and really dark, but the chorus just seems to "typical journey" when i was expecting something different.

The song is beautiful on its own, I just think Perry would have added a lot of feeling to it. Just curious I guess. I also loved "Remember me". That song amazed me the first time I heard it. Again, I'd have loved to have heard SP's version of the song.

I like the song but I don't like the vocalist. Song's too big for him.

Know i think his studio version was very good. A live version featuring Augeri at the time, would of probably left alot to be desired

Well, yeah, but what does that tell you?

Augeri is just a weak vocalist IMO. Rumor has it the Red13 songs originated from a session with Jeff Tate (Queensryche) when he was in the running as lead vocalist. I think these songs have his influence in them and I think they would have sounded better with him singing them. He's a much stronger vocalist. Hell, just about everyone Journey auditioned before and since Augeri have been stronger vocalists than him.

Again, good song(s), but too big for the singer IMO.

It's GEOFF Tate and, if I remember correctly, there was only one, maybe two, songs that they worked on with Tate. WAFTE was one of those, I believe.

I agree with our assessment, the song is a good song on the wrong CD. It's a pretty personal song that makes a strong connection with me. I think anyone who has been been through a tough time, had thought about the worst, and is starting to see the light can connect with this song. It's a bit too personal for me to enjoy at the moment but with time I'll be able to enjoy it again.

I agree with you, it needs a little more feeling. It's a nice song though, that was the first time I've heard anything from Red13. I don't own that one.

That's the only 1 of the 4 from Red13 that sounds like Journey to me. SA does a credible job, some songs are even great on Arrival and Generations. But your last paragraph hits home with me regarding the SP-era songs.

I know a lot of people rave about this song, but, honestly, it doesn't do much for me. He justed sounded very nasally, not much power to the vocals, especially toward the ending. There are many other SA-sang songs that I like better. Higher Place, All the Way, FITH, Beyond the Clouds. I know, people say the production on Generations was horrible. I'm not a musician or technical person, and music is subjective, anyway. Who knows, maybe people listen for different things (different criteria) in how they relate to a song (or singer). To me, I liked all of SA's songs on Generations, even though he did sound like he was singing in a tunnel, lol. To me, the muffling of his vocals actually masked his "nasalness", thereby enhancing his singing abilities (to my ears).

To me it's one of the best (moody) Journey ballads ever. Great lyrics on this one and a good delivery by Augeri. The bridge they "borrowed from the bridge/solo of Out of Love by Toto, but still great

This is one of my favorite songs from the Augeri era Journey.

I feel the same,one of my favorites, the lyrics are great,There was no effects at all on the vocals ,they needed to add some effects like they did with Perry,either way I like the way he sings it.

I actually like the fact that it's dry. It adds to the moodiness of the song. More reverb and you get that Open Arms feel again.

Thank you. It's all very much a work in progress. I've been working on some Toto style songs for the last couple of days, so there may be some new tunes up there within a week or so. Lec Zorn project was pretty damn cool. There were a lot of talented musicians on that album. Anyway, thanks again,

Thanks. You have the album? That was a neat line-up. I worked a lot with Eric Ragno on it, he also posts here I saw. I'm VERY proud of our cover of Kansas' Play the Game Tonight. Also look out for the debut album of Work of Art with singer Lars Safsund who is also featured on the Lec Zorn cd. I wonder how Journey would have sounded with him, pretty cool I'd say, different but cool.

Regarding your songs, I'd love to hear some high energy uptempo tracks.
