There's a big difference. Robert Plant, David Lee Roth, and other principle members have either remained active in the music business or at the very least, partially active.
Perry hasn't done a thing since the white sox won the world series...and I'm starting to question whether or not steve's rather un-impressive performance at that chicago parade was augmented by steroids or HGH

Prior to the white sox, the last note he sung was in 1997. He's not coming back...he hints about it...but he's not going to do it.
I do agree with Deano that the music and Perry has a staying power that keep people wanting more. That *completely* explains the reason why
sane people still hang around this band. However, let me add...that the proportion of sane, genuinely normal people to psycho, void-of-positive,depressed, negatively-fueled people that are drawn to Journey's uglinesss FAR outweighs the amount of normal fans....probably by a factor of 97:1.
