I love this band, im only 18, but i can happily say that i love Journey. I wish more than anything that i could of been around during its hey day, but i cant.

But with everything thats happend, and especially some of the things that happends on this bored, do we get too passionate about them? full heated arguments breaking out about singer, musicians, songs and albums.

Ive never known another groups fans who feel so strongly about the band, why do we?

They make amazing music no doubt, but is this enough reason for us too have explosive arguments?

ahh i love the life of a Journey fan :)

Some people will argue about the color of the sky. I think this could be a forum about toaster ovens, and people would STILL get heated! I think many on here use this place as therapy to vent out their frustrations. Also, some people in here NEED to go to therapy!

I think it's just the nature of message boards... Sure, some people here are probably that passionate, but it's also easy to get sucked into the fray when it occurs just like a game. I try not to get into it too much, and keep myself entertained with plenty of OT topics. :P

Yep I am passionate about them. Seen them too many damn times in concert not to be passionate about them. I will admit I was/am not an Augeri fan, when JSS stepped in I felt that they would be back on top again. Some one amongst them had a brain fart and all their heads filled with un neccessary gas.

For a band like Journey, that has been sustained on negativity for so long... I really believe this band brings out the worst in people. You can't go 1-2 days without a fight erupting about Journey. It's not because the band has had some breakups, personel changes. People don't fight like this elsewhere.

It all has to do with the fact that this band has had a negative aura around it for decades....and it only attracts people that are so fucking depressed and removed from sanity, that there's nothing left to do by fight over stupid shit like who is the next sap to front this train wreck.

I was a Psych major in college and that part of my brain has really thought about Journey and their fans. I mean, how many people stay attached to a band that hasn't put out a new album for 10 years (the time between ROR and TBF)?? And, then, when said band DOES descend from it's ivory tower (I am typing with sarcasm right now), the "reunion" gets sidelined. Not to mention the drama that has ensued for the last 10 years (more or less).

I'd like to think I am not TOO removed from sanity, but after this... Who knows?? Thanks for the interesting post - really made me think.

It's Steve Perry. That shadow of his is still visible and his quietness..keeps people believing for some reason he may ultimately return. The songs as well, have serious staying power.

And there it is! VERY well put Strange!

Mind if I borrow that? Lord knows I'm definitely left of sane. 8)

if van halen and led zeppelin can reform this year.van halen for the first time since 1985 and led zep who have been broke up since 1980 then there is hope for journey.both bands have had legendary squabbles or personality conflicts and have still managed to bury the hatchet.hell robert plants situation is very close to steve perry's.everyone is wondering if robert can still hit the high notes and if he'll be able to perform physically draining concerts.the plant and perry vocal situations are similar where you have singers who are now in their 60's or nearing that age who may or may not be able to pull off the vocal stunts they were able to achieve when they were younger.

basically i can say this.if led zeppelin can reform then surely journey has hope there as well.EVERY man has his price and his weakness.someone has YET to find those with perry.....

People are passionate about the Perrys years and the Soto yr. That is what sold, but Jeff never even got a chance to write because he would probably show them up. He is a musician/singer and a power out front. I won't go anymore to pay to hear what? I heard Plant sing live in 2007 on You Tube. He sounds just fine !

There's a big difference. Robert Plant, David Lee Roth, and other principle members have either remained active in the music business or at the very least, partially active.

Perry hasn't done a thing since the white sox won the world series...and I'm starting to question whether or not steve's rather un-impressive performance at that chicago parade was augmented by steroids or HGH  Prior to the white sox, the last note he sung was in 1997. He's not coming back...he hints about it...but he's not going to do it.

I do agree with Deano that the music and Perry has a staying power that keep people wanting more. That *completely* explains the reason why sane people still hang around this band. However, let me add...that the proportion of sane, genuinely normal people to psycho, void-of-positive,depressed, negatively-fueled people that are drawn to Journey's uglinesss FAR outweighs the amount of normal fans....probably by a factor of 97:1.
