Kansas and Journey Similarities

This may been brought up before, but I was looking through at Kansas' album covers and saw the cover for Audio Visions. It immediately reminded me of Journey's Frontiers.

I believe AV came out in 1980 and Frontiers in 1983. Anyone else ever notice this?

Not sure if Journey's album artist got any inspiration from the artwork on AV or not, but I guys I could see overall similarities.

It isn't what's on the outside but what's on the inside. That blue cover is 100 times better than that orange and black one, that's for sure.

I'm a huge Kansas fan, but I completely agree.

Frontiers looks OK. ROR.. hmm, fine for a Steve Perry solo album.

Infinity - Evolution - Departure - Captured - Escape - beautiful album covers.

If I recall Herbie's Castle's Burning interview, they had the artwork for Frontiers using the Scarab, but Perry wanted it changed. Herbie says that HH prevailed on the name (Frontiers) and Perry won on the artwork.

Musical Simlarities also. Part of the opening for Carry On Wayward Son is the same as part of the pre-perry tune "I'm Gonna Leave You" (if I remember correctly). This can also be heard in Ross's Bass solo on Captured. Now who stole (borrowed) from who on that one?

I was just about to bring this up.

No mistaking the borrowed guitar lines in Carry On Wayward Son. I read the notes in Time3 before hearing the song and thought the boys were being a little arrogant...until I heard the song. Whoa!

I guess they evened the score.
