What???

In another thread, somebody posted that Arnel's vocals were more raw and powerful than Perry's. Still trying to wrap my head around that one. Any examples?

Listening/watching this youtube.........some of the most raw, powerful and passionate vocals. Shaking my head, sorry just don't get it.....maybe it's Perry's tone/timbre or maybe it's all in the delivery. Emoting is all about feeling the song you're performing...........just can't see the comparison....nobody "feels" a song quite like Perry.

Why give credence to the moronic?

Seriously, if anyone says someone is better than Perry, they are either high, drunk or retarded.

I didn't see that one, but clearly, someone did eat the brown acid. More powerful than Perry? Arnel? Uh... not even close. he does do an impressive imitation of a statue though!

Perry is about as replaceable in Journey as Freddie Mercury is in Queen. There will never be another like either of them. Queen was smart enough to know that by hiring an established singer with a broad musical appeal as opposed to looking for a "soundalike". No question that Arnel is a great vocalist, but he just doesn't capture a song's feeling like SP did. Without the emotion, it falls flat for me.

i had a friend come into work a week or so ago. the morning show he was listening to while driving to work was talking about journey & the hiring of arnel. they played a clip of him singing 'faithfully'. my friend who grew up in the 70's & had been a huge journey fan said he got goosebumps... just like he did back in the early years with perry. this coming from some one who is not biased. }:C)

i got upset when he told me they mentioned jss getting fired! now that doesn't put jss in very good light. grr! }:C|

I'd like to see some examples too. There is NOBODY that sings with such emotion as SP.....NOBODY, not even Freddie Mercury.

Even Friga knows that when he said SP bleeds a little every time he sings.

I'll never understand this whole debacle called Journey, it boggles my mind.

Whoo boy  , I have not read the Arnel better than SP comments, just what is told and listed here. I am sensing an Arnelfans vs. Perryfans shitstorm brewing, just like all the Wigglers vs Loons internet board fights that used to break out everywhere. If this keeps up, it will get ugly.

I agree. I guess I'm just being melancholy. Having seen my other 2 favorite singers perform last year......just miss that "voice". :(

I was thinking Chuck Norris also, but he's getting kind of old by now don't you think. I think the Rock would fuck him up right though.

No example. Lol, always consider the source first. I think Dean already supplied us with information.

We have it easy here, we can speak freely, you have to really step out of line here, I mean really f**ck up to get banned from this forum, the moderator is way too nice to us all - I am a nice guy too, though I would probably ban people for making statements such as the one Deb mentioned.

The thing is, you want to be on the Perry team. He will NEVER lose.

The Wigglers made asses out of themselves.

The Soto Pops knew Jeff wasn't Perry but that Jeff was awesome.

The Arnelians are basically Susie using her 34 different names.

The more this Circus plays, the better Steve Perry looks.

I am just torn.

My friendship with Soto is well known, and I hate Neal and Jon for that..but I am a Journey fan. I certainly do not hate Arnel Pineda though. Argh. Argh again!

Amen. The guy has an incredible voice, but he does lack the emotion necessary to carry off these songs. He can imitate just about anyone he wants though. Including Anne Wilson.

Journey without Steve Perry is just another band.

Steve Perry Stepped aside
Each of us has to do what we feel is right

So the wheel in the sky spins
Now its pointed at Arnel.
The stage is his
Now his voice will interpret the music.

Time & space has spoken
we have but to listen or turn a deaf ear
Still we must remember
We all deserve a chance to preserver

I seriously doubt that!
From what I understand
Steve's mother was quite a powerhouse in her own right!

hell.. I admit it, on Sep Ways, Arnel sounds more "powerful" than any of the Perry recordings I've heard. But that doesn't mean better, keep that in mind. JSS sounded more "powerful" as well, but again, that doesn't mean better all the time. Big deal....

'powerful' singing might actually mean 'straining' or 'forcing the voice to sing notes out of it's range.'
And if THAT's happening, then maybe he should make an appointment to see Steve Augeri's throat specialist now.

Have any MR posters seen Arnel live yet?
Or is everyone going on what's up on YouTube?

I'm curious, I've read all of that so many times since AP was announced to be the new lead singer and it's already been pointed out (and obviously disregarded time and again) that AP did 5 shows a week 3 hours at a time singing all kinds of these melodic songs in the smoky bars of Manila and Olongapo City with little to no affect on his singing voice.

Do many of us here actually want the guy to develop some sort of throat affliction that felled SA? If he gets one, it won't be do to belting out the high notes. The guy is 40 years old and has been singing like that since age 15. If he hasn't developed any polyps on his vocal cords from all of that, then why do so many think that being on Journey will hurt him vocally now?

I just don't get :|

Y'all be cool!

My name ain't Suzie

I guess I'm an Arnelian too but I was a Journey fan first 8) Him being on the band is something I'm looking forward to. I call it an INFUSION but thats my humble opinion.
