08-Ballads or Rockers ?

When I saw Journey with JSS in front last year, they rocked harder than they ever had since the Froniters tour in 83 (imho), playing songs like Edge of the Blade and Rubicon
The only clips I 've seen of Arnel are of him singing ballads - Journey ballads, Survivor ballads, Heart ballads,Aerosmith ballads, etc ect. Just wondering when Journey tour next year will it be a concert full of ballads, the only sop thrown to hard rock fans being Separate Ways? More importantly will the new album be all ballads?

One or two ballads per album is ENOUGH for any band.
I'd be sick to my stomach if Journey did nothing but tour and record ballads this year.
Every album since Frontiers could've been SO MUCH BETTER if each and every one of them trimmed off the fluff. ROR, TBF, Arrival, and Generations all had so much potential and great ideas... but it was all watered down by syrupy ballads.
Don't get me wrong--- Some of these ballads strike gold (When You Love A Woman, With Your Love, Beyond the Clouds, Still She Cries, a few others) but most of them feel half-assed and really lose listeners like myself.
The first half of Journey's career had it right... mainly rockers with a few ballads thrown in, but the pre-ROR ballads were of a more "epic" quality than would come later..

I'm hoping for rockers, but expecting mid-tempo/ballads.

The album with probably be very mid-tempo with alot of nice songs on it. Im assuming the album is going to be very Arrival like.

There are going to be some kick ass rockers and I believe 4 ballads and 3 mid tempo songs.

With JC doing the writing there will be plenty of ballads. But I have heard about one song and it was a typical Journey rocker so I am told. As for live, you will see the dirty dozen blus some of the extras but I doubt they will be rockin' extras like Edge Of The Blade, Lay It Down, Wanted Dead Or Alive, etc. You might get a few new tracks to start with, but they will trim it down and soon you will be lucky to hear even one new track...that one would probably like Separate Ways or Higher Place.
(OT: it bothers me that Higher Place is the only Augeri-era track that ever got a halfway decent push in concert...and it was working...now we will likely never hear it again!)

My guess for the album layout:
1 Schon instrumental
4 Ballads, 1 sung by Deen
5 Mid-Tempo, one sung by Cain because I'm sure that prick loves his voice
1 Up-Tempo
At least 3 songs will have sampled tracks of animal noises for no apparent reason.

So maybe 3 rockers and 7 slow/mid. That sounds pretty unexciting to be honest. But...I won't speculate....I'm still holding out for a 7/3 mix

Don't despair Andrew.
11 comes out 3/23/08, and I
know that fucker will rock. See, we don't need Journey to be happy.

Fair, but mid tempo songs like DSB, Mother Father and a few others are far from "unexciting"...though I certainly don't expect them to be
that good.

Looking forward to that....but not sure that Bryan remembers how to rock properly. We shall see!
As for Journey - we need at least 5 rockers....AT LEAST!!!!!

Every year there have been discussions of album content. Neal even weighed in saying he wanted to shorten the length down to 10-11 tracks with only 1-2 ballads and then Generations finally comes out and it is still too long with 3-4 slow tunes and too much filler! Arrival should have trimmed the ballad content and so should TBF.
Guys, it ain't about quantity, it's about quality.
One of the things I like about Red13 is it is more or less a 3:1 ratio. I could live with a 6:2 but 9:3 is getting out of whack.

Since we deduced that most of the stuff was written before Crazy AP (that dude is Dynomite!)

hit the bay I agree with whoever said its gonna be Arrival like.
They better rock. We had enough snoozers on Arrival to last us until we're eating MRE's at the next disaster.
No more ZZTop imitations unless everyone but Deen grows some grampa claus beards.

Can you imagine Jon Cain with a beard? HA! It'd have more ribbons in it than a fucking My Little Pony.

Somebody needs to make a Flash game online where we get a Friga doll, basically, and get to dress it up and give it new hairstyles and shit.
We could have a contest here on MR to see who can make Friga look the gayest, and whoever wins, should get to be his personal dresser/stylist for the next tour.
God damn, I think Friga would look bitchin' in a Rick Wakeman-style cape.

I'd say the picture in the post before yours would be hard to beat gay wise. All of a sudden I think of the Village People, how come?
