JSS --> Arnel --> Stage Presence

Take a look at this JSS performance of Separate Ways:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWEYi8HOisg
Imagine Arnel doing the exact stage moves, antics, etc. If that was your first time seeing Arnel doing those moves, would you think the stage presence was bad, good, awesome?
I personally think JSS's stage presence on the vid was fine. Vocally I thought he did a good job. The pre-recorded backing vocals were too high in the mix, plus I didn't like it when he just mouthed the words or stopped singing during the chorus, looked really weird to me. I never saw that before on this tune before.

Im not too sure what your point is. If Arnel done this obvisouly id think it was fine . .
I dont mind JSS mouthing the words and getting the crowd involved.

Stage moves? Do we want N'sync, the Backstreet Boys, or Journey? I want a great voice that fits the band.

Haha, somehow I knew Deano was gonna cut in with a Lakers dig. Props, big man. Props.
I agree that stage moves aren't anything. Hell, put Friga up on stage tap-dancing for three hours, just as long as we all get to hear some bitchin' tunes I'm happy.

Truer words have never been spoken. Now if it was a NBA Champion Spurs Jersey...I'd be cool with that.

ANY NBA jersey is awful. JSS never looked better than when he wore Panther gear in Pampano Beach.

If ya want my honest opinion, I don't think he could pull it off quite the same. He doesn't have the natural groove, confidence and charisma that JSS has. You're either born with it or you're not.
Perfect example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UR2hw6AsAI
I couldn't see AP pulling this sexy bluesy song off live, with the punch it deserves, quite the same.
Quick JoePa, cover your eyes.......sorry, but us females can be such damn visual creatures sometimes.

Fully agree with that,Deb. There's an important temperament difference between Jeff and Arnel and it's all in their heritage.
Puerto Ricans are passionate Latinos. No one can beat that. (except for the Portuguese

)
I guess Arnel's best weapon to win over the crowd will be his voice. If his performance will be flawless,he can just hold the mic and get the job done.(theoretically, sure

)

Oh please.
Deb, honestly, you have no idea how Arnel can dance, entertain or emote as you say. It's all speculative.
Laura, that was the single sumbest fuckin thing I have ever read. "Peurto Ricans are more passionate Latinos?" What in THE Hell is that?
FYI, Jeff is a fuckin American.

if pineda had the moves that JSS has none of this would be relevant as a topic, now would it?

You're right, all I can go on are the youtube clips. But that's all I had to go on with JSS at first too.....and ya can see/hear it in even the "small club" clips of Jeff too. Even the small club ones of JSS, performance wise you can't tell if he is playing in front of 50 or 20,000. Seriously, I can not see AP pulling off LTS live quite the same as Jeff. It takes a natural groove/swagger and I don't see that in AP.
Probably more of a chick thing anyways, so no point in arguing with
you about it.

So is the whole Arnel vs. JSS thing... the two are worlds apart in entertaining ability and 98% of this board would rather
walk across America to watch JSS wash the dishes than bother with a Journey/Arnel show in their own backyard.

How many threads does is take to hash over Arnel's (lack of) stage presence? We already have 2 and that's 2 more than necessary.

Thanks, Colnel b/c everytime I say this shit some sex-obsessed poster or other leaps from the weeds to call me jealous and accuse me of not being able to handle testosterone.
Reality is, I could give a rip if he stomps around with Manson lamps, Nike tennis shoes and leopard blouse, "wiggles" about in red leather pants, or genuflects to Neal and throws the mic up, catches it and sings sideways into it....I want to hear what they SOUND like.

Raise arm, drop/grab mic, turn around, vary speed dependant on material, rinse and repeat. Not everyone can make that look as effortlessly cool as JSS. The guy IS a true rock star and extremely gracious with it. That being said I believe Arnel will do just fine.
Listening to '7' again now - freakin' awesome album!

there is no denying JSS has sex appeal. i can't say the same for Pineda, but perhaps that makes him less threatening as a band member.

I pulled away from the vocals at times where Deen sang unison (in music terms means the same notes as I) on certain songs, I would 'cheerlead' the crowd to sing by not doing so on the mic...have always done this on anthemic songs with any band I've been in, especially when the crowd knows the song as well as the creator. I listened to the clip & trust me, the backing tapes are barely on, those vocals are very much live as I mentioned, Deen is up there on the highs with me, Jon handled the mids & Neal/Ross had the lower harmonies, that was one that never needed backing assistance therefore their mixed quite low live.
Lakers rules, sorry, they may have horrible moments the past years but I am a diehard since the Magic Johnson days so I can't be swayed by some hockey loving dickhead

I say that with all love!

Fag

I wouldn't think you need to defend the singing with no sound thing. Perry himself did that all the time!

Of course that is the #1 criteria.....otherwise none of us would even be here arguing about stage presence. If you can't sing or play, all the stage presence in the world isn't going to get you anywhere. LOL gotta give Britney Spears an A for effort though.

Come on Joepa give it a rest. Frontmen have been entertaining since the beginning of time. Do you think Elvis was wigglin those hips for the guys in the audience, uh NO. Did it take away from his voice, uh NO. Please try to remember there are 2 sexes in the audience at most rock concerts. Females are just as much visual creatures as males are.

Er, one second, JSS.
A very much In-The-Know fan stated above, in dogmatic matter of fact fashion, that those bg vox ARE prerecorded.
What're you trying to sell here, that being there makes you know more than some fans posting here? Come on. what'dya take us for?

Yes, very visual. And so far, Journey is exactly 50/50 on giving me lead singers I enjoy looking at.
The two with the S initials... not too shabby! The two with the A initials... not so much.
