Interesting Schon Sighting in Vegas

Paragraph below was noted in Las Vegas Review Journal Norm Clarke column. Not to speculate, but could it be about their Las Vegas rumored performace?

"Oh, to be a fly on the wall for this power lunch at Gardunos Mexican restaurant at the Palms on Monday: Rapper West; music producer and "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson; Neal Schon from Journey; Hilton exec Ken Ciancimino; legendary music producer Kevin Shirley; and Zoe Thrall, director of the Studio at the Palms."

- Norm Clarke, LV Review Journal http://www.lvrj.com/news/12968602.html

Same column mentioned Kanye West dedicating a performance of Don't Stop Believin' to his late mother.

Hopefully Randy Jackson is re-joining Journey.

I love his soulful low-down funky grooves.

Sounds like they're setting up the Vegas show.

Is that Rapper West as in Kanye West? Please God, no.

Yep, I was afraid it was. The two paragraphs are back to back.

During his concert at The Pearl (Palms) on Monday night, Kanye West sang "Hey Mama" and dedicated Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" to his late mother, Donda West, his one-time manager. She died Nov. 10 in Los Angeles after cosmetic surgical procedures. ...

Oh, to be a fly on the wall for this power lunch at Gardunos Mexican restaurant at the Palms on Monday: Rapper West; music producer and "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson; Neal Schon from Journey; Hilton exec Ken Ciancimino; legendary music producer Kevin Shirley; and Zoe Thrall, director of the Studio at the Palms.

Your lack of Journey knowledge is showing. Randy Jackson is 45 times better than Ross.

Right on. Ross has played bass for Journey, and who else, Steve Miller Band? And been largely mediocre for both?

Randy Jackson is one of the most-demanded studio bassists in music history, having played on God-knows-how-many records. Only a select few like Tony Levin, Lee Sklar, and that Porcaro feller have been more prolific than our spandex-wearing, yeah-dawgging friend Randy Jackson.

RJ is a great basist and would bring alot of publicity to the band if it were to happen

No thanks, I prefer Ross. This is my opinion. I have no problems with Ross' playing up to this point!

This is really a diverse group. In my opinion, Ross is about the blandest bass player I've ever heard. Randy is a much better bass player and really gets down and you can actually HEAR the bass, listen to his solo on ROR's Be Good to Yourself.

That's just my opinion though.

My sentiments exactly. No one's saying Ross is better than Randy Jackson but Ross is not by far a poor bassist. He does his job without being noticed and that's usually all you ask of a bassist.

Hearing the bass isn't about who is a better player. There are bands I can think of where you can hear the bass on the albums but that doesn't mean the bassist is any good.

Steve Perry was 50/50 on his ROR-era decisions. Great move in booting Ross, but poor move in booting Smitty.

I'd LOVE to hear Smitty and Randy groove together.

Actually I prefer Marco Mendoza or Gary Schutt when it comes to bass over either of those 2.

If Schon wants to continue Journey on forever as a franchise, the way he's kinda been doing, it'd be a good idea to boot Ross eventually and put in either Schutt or Mendoza, or maybe even Marcel Jacob as a new four-stringer. Ross is the oldest guy in the band, ain't he?

EDIT- Hell, I'd love to see JACK BLADES in Journey!

I totally agree......what a combo that would have been. But.......Perry is human, he screwed up big time.

I didn't know much about him or SS at all when I saw him with JSS and Neal at Lofflers/Anaheim last January and was blown away. After hearing "Praise" that night, quickly looked up the SS catalogue, I love the bass and drum sound on a lot of the SS stuff. Actually come to think of it both Gary and MM played bass at that show.

Also had my first and last Jaegerbombs that weekend too. Image Damn you Deano!

Shirley is mixing new Journey in LV, no? And probably at the Palms studio...which Shirley has said he likes.
So this is probably nothing more than Schon was in to work some with Shirley, and the other guys just happened to be around. For whatever reason they decide to do lunch and someone invites someone else who invited someone else...who always wanted to meet someone else...etc.

It was probably all coincidental. Why read so much into it?

later~

Why would I "just type" that? There's a list somewhere on a site that I frequent that has a list of all of the different albums Randy Jackson has played on, and they number well into the hundreds... at least. If I remember the statistics correctly, Randy has played on something like 200 different albums that have went at least gold. He's played with Springsteen, Blue Oyster Cult, Journey, Steve Perry solo, Mariah Carey, Stryper, Bon Jovi, and an assload of others.

They were probably discussing the rumored Journey night on American Idol. Arnel and company making a tv debut on the show. ;)

You people are making too much of this.

Neal is always in Vegas playing around. Randy is there for who knows why. The Hilton owner well, owns a Hilton there. And Shirley is probably trolling for clam. It's a fucking lunch folks.
