Another thing BA has on Donny... he sings duets with the Spice Girls! Got me there... :P

I did just learn that both Bryan Adams and Dokken have songs called "Into The Fire". The main difference is that the Dokken version has cajones...

i loved Dokken growing up .. BEAST is one of the best live albums of all time.. plus that little shinner at the end.. breaking the chains live..unbeatable.. i used to jog in the dark in the early 90's with BEAST and Operation Mindcrime on the same tape.. you can cover some ground that way..

Now you know
That I stood outside your window
Just a little too long.

What you're gonna do
When the hours pass away
And you know that I'm gone.
Well, it may be a week,
It may be a day,
I'm six blocks over
And I don't know what to say to you.

Jokin' 'bout your mama
Went a little too far.
But you caught me
Out with the others
Till the early dawn.

There may be a time
If we played it right
I'm six blocks over
And you wanna spend a night with me.

Now the hours and the minutes
Just fly away.
You win some and you lose some,
You gotta get it right
Or I'll be saying
Bye bye bye bye bye bye bye bye.

Thinkin' back to
The way you're holdin' me down,
I'd be better off dead.

Now you know
That the time is running out
Of the things we said.

Well, it may be a week,
It may be a day,
I'm six blocks over
And I don't know what to say to you.

Now the hours and the minutes
Just fly away.
You win some and you lose some,
You gotta get it right
Or I'll be saying
Bye bye bye bye ...

Oh and, I believe Bryan Adams is better than Dokken!, although I love Dokken - you cannot take their music too seriously, their lyrics are somewhat meaningless half the time.

Ok, well.....at first, I was going to rip Rip's dome off and shit down his neck. Then I thought about it, and said to myself, "why argue with someone who has lesser talent?" I went to the drugstore and returned. Ready to Brawl. I will go to the wall for BA. Yea yea I said the same thing about Neal Schon. Had he manned up and told Jeff like a man why he was going in a different direction, he would still have my support. Anyway......

Firstly, just to let you know Rip, BA's version of Into the Fire was an acoustic version done in Brussels, Belgium, off his Live Live Live CD, which was recorded in a driving rainstorm in front of 30,000 people. The studio version is definitely a rocker, with really meaningful lyrics. It was done slow to showcase his guitar playing and have the audience mellow and focus. Just because a song is faster, it doesn't mean it's better. I think BA's version(studio), does in fact rock harder. Judge yourself, listen to it here--

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MYWDXHI6

My client, who I am unabashedly proud of, has won a Grammy, has had number one albums, multiple number one songs, one of the longest charting singles of all time, depending on which chart you read and believe, has sold more units worldwide than Journey, plays in every country of the world, like Ethiopia, Vietnam, Kosovo, Chile, Argentina, Russia, Sweden, Finland among states he has visited, is more world popular than Bon Jovi and is involved with many great charities, including Greenpeace, and Oceanic life preservation, and Greenhouse gas causes. BA is a sure fire Hall of Famer and is considered one of the best songwriters ever.

I like Rip and this is all in jest, but it's pretty clear who the more talented artist is, and once I saw Dokken break into their version of Into the Fire, I laughed out loud at the cheesiness. Rip, seriously, come on out to Calif in February(Sacramento), or Vegas Feb 8th and 9th and let's catch a show. If you come out here, I will promise to come to the Ozarks and watch Dokken.

I know many of you snicker at me for love of BA, but honestly, if you look at the numbers, he is quite impressive. His numbers, in every category, better Journey's.

One more comment. Train wreck photos really rub me the wrong way. I know you guys didn't know that, but once you strike a car and an occupant, it is eerie to see any kind of train on the ground. No prob though and one more comment. Please don't think you can't say something to piss me off. Who am I? Just a loudmouth strongly opinionated poster. I respect anyone who can substantiate an argument, whether I agree or not. I love arguments and believe one can learn from an argument. Most of my riled up posts at people are done for humour(like todays response to YKMW's idiotic cover album crap).

Rip, it's all good bro, but you know damned well BA owns Dokken. And that Spice girl duet, is a pop song, but it's pretty catchy. He brings up a female every show to perform it with him. Just a fun time, nothing serious. He also did the song with Pam Anderson on his last compilation album. It is for charity so I can't argue that.

Bryan by about 4000 country miles.

However - BA lost MAJOR credibility by singing about underwear, getting that dolt from the Spice Girls to join him and then even MORE by getting that inflatable bimbo Pam ANderson to sign with im - WTF was he thinking? Well, I think we know...but dude, fark!!!!

Dokken - good band and some great songs, but always had an average singer and believe me when I say, I have heard the lead track from the new album and his voice is struggling big time...

Bryan in his Cuts Like A Knife / Reckless / Into The Fire era is simply untouchable. And his live band then was among the best EVER on a stage.

ROFL!!! First, let me say that this thread was as close as I could get to a drunken post without actually having had a drink... haha! It was one of those where I woke up thinking, "What the hell did I say last night?!?", worried about the damage I might have caused. :P Glad it was all taken in good fun!

Yeah, it's not really possible to compare BA to Dokken -- really apples to oranges. I guess you can only say who you prefer, and of course I prefer Dokken, though I do acknowledge BA's obvious talents and success. I've never actually owned a BA album and Deano's love for him has actually only made me more curious about looking into some. I've only been familiar with him from his singles. And I didn't realize Deano actually worked for him or had some association with him other than just as a fan... that explains the passion a bit more. :P

I have however seen BA twice live. The first time was when The Storm opened for him, and I actually bought the ticket just to see The Storm (but loved Bryan's show as well). 2nd time was opening for the Rolling Stones, and I know I've told this story before, but I felt a little bad for him because here was this very talented, well established artist with all these hits struggling to keep the attention of a whole stadium of fans who were only there to see The Stones. I noticed that he stuck to all rockers in his set, not playing a single ballad to my memory. Things like "Summer of '69", "Cuts Like A Knife", and "Kids...".

Now back to the BA vs. Dokken videos... Yeah, I was searching YouTube for some Bryan Adams spoof video to post, but really couldn't find any after pages and pages... Just actual BA videos. I did notice several duets with chicks, like the Spice Girl, Sarah McLachlan... I was expecting to see one with The Muppets at any turn. :P But I was surprised to catch that song "Into The Fire", because Dokken also has one. So I decided to post both vids -- I picked a Dokken live version to be fair because the BA vid was live (and I hadn't heard the original track). The truth is, I listened to 3 different live versions of Dokken's "Into The Fire" because each was a little painful. I mean, live is live, but these just weren't the greatest. I wanted to find one that really did justice to the song... But ended up actually picking that particular one because of Don's cartoonish intro -- I mean, that nasally "F-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-A-A-A-A-H ! ! !" really made me laugh! So I knew from the beginning I was handicapping any point I could make with that, hoping to take away any chance I could be taken seriously.

I think I've also said this before, but part of my attraction to Dokken has been Don's cartoonishness at times. Of course I love the music, love the songs, and they had one of the great guitar heroes of the '80s in George Lynch. I think Don is (was) a great vocalist, with a very unique and pleasant timbre to his voice. I've heard many people say that he would have made a great pop singer, but he just took the rock route. I also think he's a killer songwriter, and I like more Dokken albums song-for-song than just about anyone (except for JSS -- dude is just a fountain of fresh melody). Now... along with all that is all the melodrama of Don, the fist fights with the band, the hillarious comments about his sex life, all the silly stage antics like running up on stage near the end of a Warrant set and yelling at Jani Lane to get the hell off the stage, etc. Dude has a way of pissing people off, and that makes me laugh! And yes, I fear that much of at least his live voice is shot. He smokes and drinks, which is hell on a singer's throat, and he doesn't seem to care. Almost every Dokken concert review I read mentions how bad he sounds these days. But he still goes on and acts like a rock god, and I find that funny! :P Don is just a unique character. Andrew, I heard over a year ago that Don would be returning to higher vocals on this new album, but it became delayed so much... and the first single "Oasis" does not demonstrate this for sure. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm not expecting high vocals...

Yeah, Deano gets it... my "intense" defense of Dokken is actually a humorous stunt that I enjoy playing on when someone takes a shot at them. If I took Don so seriously, I'd pick better avatars of him... :P

Hey, Dean, my apologies on the trainwreck photo if that triggered a bad thought... I shan't do it again. Have a good week, bro!

I'll leave you with this incredible remake of a CLASSIC Dokken tune. :P

LOL,too true.I guess he wanned the best of both worlds...Hopefully the new album will put him back in the Rockers league where he belongs.
There's no need for untalented bimbos to sell his work better - just rock the goddamned house and make us happy! :D

LOL -- That does seem to be the general consensus for anyone who has seen it... :P When I first saw it, I guess I looked at it from another perspective... A younger generation appreciating/singing/listening to some of my favorite songs from the 80's, and so I got a kick out of it. There was this period up until recently when you'd talk about your band with people in their late teens or early 20's, and they'd never even heard of them. I think that was the first experience that made me realize I was getting older... haha! Anytime I see a kid wearing an 80's rock T-shirt these days, or getting into the music (probably thanks to their parents), it makes me smile. Yes, that remake sucks... :P But I give them an A for even thinking about that song... No, maybe not... it was probably their label or manager that made them do it. :P

I had a few more thoughts about Dokken after I wrote that last post. They had a very unique sound that no one else really tried to imitate, especially when so many clone bands were coming out. Another thing about Dokken that always made me laugh... When bands like Bon Jovi had a "pact" not to air their dirty laundry in public, Don was ALL about airing the bands dirty laundry. He was always a drama queen... haha! And he's also the king of adding a "persecuted" or "pity me" quality to his "U done me wrong" songs. Always got a kick out of that... Example, from "I Surrender" off of Hell To Pay:

Leave me here alone.
Lying in the burning sun.
This world has bleached my bones.
I should have taken your advice.

Lying all alone.
Lost to all my memories.
Feeling like a stone.
As the sky above me starts to weep.

Oh, God, my ears! Now, I will have that dance beat in my head everytime I listen to the original. To the kids that listen to this remake, it is new (i.e., never been done before), so they will think it is the coolest.

Reminds me of when Run DMC remade "Walk This Way"... Many years ago, I was cutting my sister's hair while listening to the local top-40 radio station. On came Run DMCs (then current) version and I started singing along. Now, my sister was strickly a Pop/top 40-child, while I was firmly commited to my rock roots. To her, I was crossing over to her world and she found this extremely entertaining and was quick to tease me about it. She smuggly asked if I now like rap (with a snicker) because I knew the words. I quickly corrected her that this was a remake of a rock song by Aerosmith, but she refused to believe me. At some point, we had changed radio stations and the original version then came on. When she realized I wasn't lying, her triumph was short-lived and was replaced by a defeated frown. 8)

Debbie
(who appreciates both BA and D -- the band -- for different reasons, but I tend to lean a little bit more toward D for the "rock" factor)
