Dont Stop McBelieving

Postby Gin and Tonic Sky » Mon Jan 07, 2008 11:47 pm

Did anyone see footage of the McCain rally in NH this morning. Dont Stop Believing was being played loudly in the background.

The greatest Journey song of course, and as I said before, Ive always liked McCain, so happy to seeing it being used well

Is there anywhere that this song ISNT being used these days?

He and Hillary will have to fight over that one with her "Sopranos" spoof...Which the campaign forgot to get advance permission to use also...

I'm glad it's being used again. To my ears, it's one of the greatest all around songs ever. Love hearing it. Can't get enough.

Love the song...Think it may be in danger of being overexposed though...As the popularity of that one song grows, the more easily Journey can be perceived as One Hit Wonders with the next generation, though we know they're far from that.

Great point(s), but how else is Neal going to pay alimony!!! And I hope that it brings people to check out other songs while they download it from itunes. My friends always have the "Oh man, Journey sings that song too" comments when I play GH. Usually more than once.

True...You know with all the royalties coming in from Journey's hits being played at any given moment somewhere in the world on multiple radio stations, I've wondered why it is that there's such a need to produce touring revenue to pay the bills. I know most of those songs are three way splits, but still, you have to figure that royalties alone would be in the high five figures monthly..?

And.......I would venture to say that is because of Steve Perry and his earnest endeavors to protect those songs and the legacy. So Neal and Jon once again should be on their hands and knees thanking him for their income.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that they don't deserve credit for those songs or their musicianship in them. I just mean that SP is the one that has preserved the songs' integrity. Those two would have had them run into the ground long ago just as they are doing with the Journey name.
"as long as they have to carry DSB as their banner, it looks like Perry will be right there with them as an overseer, ready to wield his veto power on all things Classic Journey." As quoted by Don on 12/7/2010

Too much exposure? It's 2008. Any exposure for Journey is good exposure at this point. Regardless if Arnel is the new savior or not, time is not on this band's side by any means.

Neal also said on the Frontiers documentary that he liked to be on the road. think about it--touring is his "job'. maybe he's just not ready to retire at 53. (get ready for the next birthday next month!!) what would he do? paint the shutters?? I'd go nuts at home-i'll drop dead on the job.

That's assuming the record companies are honest about reporting royalty revenues in the first place. Large corporations are notorious for keeping double books and there's practically no way to track who, what, when, where songs are used unless they're for high profile projects like the Sopranos.
