Of course! JSS Band! :P You know, I don't know if I ever heard any early Alcatrazz... I've known that both YJM and Steve Vai apparently played for them, but am not sure I've even heard a single Alcatrazz song, nor ever seen an album.

You can hear some songs on the link to their Myspace I put up above and see a live clip on Howie's Myspace. You would recognize a few songs as they do some of the songs Graham did with Rainbow... Since You've Been Gone and All Night Long - those are live on the Best of Alcatrazz.

Check out "Island In The Sun" (not the Weezer song- this one is entirely different) from the Yngwie days of Alcatrazz.

I didn't realize "Since You've Been Gone" was a Rainbow song, as I first remember it from the Impellitteri disc Graham sang on. How old is that dude now, anyway? He looked OLD back then! :P

No, they're not. It's just Graham's solo band. They're a great band, and I love Howie, but what sucks is the keyboards are all on tape and that totally blows! This is not Alcatrazz.

I remember thinking at the time that Graham looked mid-40's, and uncommonly older to front a band geared toward young folk. Another thought I had at the time was that Chris Impellitteri was just trying to mimic Malmsteen, playing just a little faster, and also hiring an ex-Rainbow alumnus frontman. I thought Bonnet's vocals on that disc sounded a little ragged. Just looked him up on Wikipedia, and he was born in 1947, making him 61. I was fairly close in my age guesstimation, then. He had his first single in 1968!

I saw these guys back when Malmsteen was in the band in 1984. I had NO idea who Malmsteen was at the time (other than that he was "discovered" by Ron Keel) but My Lord, he blew me away! I dug the band cause I had been a fan of both Rainbow AND New England (Keyboardist and bassit came from that band!If you've never heard them, check em out- some great late 70's power pop) Kinda neat that the name's still around, if nothing else...

Taz Taylor & the live keyboard thing

Graham also sings with Taz Taylor, and their live shows feature songs from their new album along with many songs from Graham's past - including those classic Rainbow tracks. The album is great, and if it's any consolation at least Taz's band uses a LIVE keyboard player, and doesn't play to some tape! I saw them last Friday in Hollywood and despite Graham's battle with the flu, the show was awesome.

Uhm...with that being said, look for me on tour with Taz Taylor and Graham Bonnet throughout Europe during March/April.

Since You've Been Gone was first recorded by Rainbow with Bonnet for the Down to Earth album which included All Night Long as well - it was written by Russ Ballard who also wrote I Surrender which is on Difficult To Cure - at this stage Rainbow were influenced strongly by Journey as an attempt to get on american radio.
Most Journey fans would also love Bent out of Shape - a great melodic rock album from Rainbow.........

Hey everyone - I will be playing this Friday, Jan 18th (2008) at Loffler's in Anaheim with

Image

This gig is a benefit put on by the guys from the Fender Custom Shop for Fender's KIDS ROCK FREE Charity found here:

http://www.fendermuseum.com/kidsrockfreeedupro.html.

You DO NOT need a NAMM badge to attend this show but you do need to be at least 21. Last year the entrance fee was 7 bucks (should be the same or thereabouts this year) and all proceeds go to this charity that helps underprivileged kids get a music education.

Loffler's is located at 8901 Katella Blvd in Anaheim, about 5 miles from the convention center. Their number is (714) 826-2040 in case you need directions.

Instrumental rock guitarist Gary Hoey is also on the bill. Hope to see some of you there!

None of the original band members except Graham are playing in this band. I think the new guys are probably better musicians, as great as Jan was, Glenn Sobel is amazing.
