ROR Tour Question

I love reading the boards on here as they educate me so much on many band's rich history, especially Journey.
I was just wondering how it came about on the ROR tour that Strung Out and Oh Sherrie was played on that tour. I was kinda shocked to see them played since I was under the impression that Neal was not real happy with Perry's solo venture because it was too much like Journey in his mind.
Can anyone explain how that came about ?

Well, this is my humble opinion only, but Steve IS Journey and so that is why it sounded like Journey
Also, some people say that ROR was just an extension of Perry's solo project, maybe that is why it went so well with the Journey material. and at that point in time Neal had turned the reins completely over to SP.

Solo material had been done on previous tours. Songs like No More Lies (Schon & Hammer), Turn Around In Tokyo (The Baby's), etc. That, along with Perry never performing those live on his own probably made it a decent decision.

What, is Neal and Friga going to question Espee? Sorry, Perry does whatever he wants, and he earned that right. He even played Don't Fight It the tour prior to ROR.
For the record, I saw him perform all three Street Talk songs in Mountain Aire. Sherrie, Foolish Heart and Strung Out.

Really, Deano? I didn't know he sang Foolish Heart. Was it only at the Mountainaire concert that he did that one? I don't remember hearing it on any of the boots I have. Interesting. Thanks for that tidbit.

Where were you sitting at Mt. Aire? I managed to get there early enough to be about 10-12 feet back from center stage. In the weeds!

I doubt very much that ANYONE has Mountain Aire, except for Espee and the band. There has never been a single clip in boot form anywhere. If anyone had the thing they would have surely released a clip, even if just to fuckin tease everyone.
Don't be fooled. No One has it.

Love the look of tails too. When I got married in 86, that was my only request. Ex-hubby wore dark grey tails and the groomsmen wore light grey. Looked sharp as hell! Grey and dusty rose.....LOL.....the wedding colors of the 80s. Oh and can't forget the big hair and mullets.

I had become a Journey fan in 1985, so that was my very first time seeing Steve Perry in person (and close!). I nearly fainted I was so excited. Neal was so much fun to watch play (still is). They looked like they were having the time of their life up there - even Jon with the keytar. Geeze, I remember thinking Jon seemed like one of the nicest guys
What a ride!

ugh!....definitely glad to see big hair and mullets go by the wayside..at least for the most part...I still run across them occasionally..unfortunitely some folks got stuck in the 80's..yikes! hahahaha! ......but, yep...Perry knew what he was doing there...tails are classic and timeless... always look cool no matter what era....I think they still look good in weddings. I dig seeing men dress up period...dig a suit and tie...Perry gets it and looked great in his suit when he met you guys....and he knew how to dress for the HWOF ceremony.

Yeah, me too, Deb. I have always liked music. Got hooked as a wee kid when Beatlemania hit. Can't believe I missed all the Journey excitement. You know how it is, there seemed to be more important things in life to concentrate on: school then job then raising a family. Now, in mid-life, there's finally freedom for fun things!

And I have to dig the sumbitch out too!
