Choose your favorite album released in 1986...
Great year for music. "5150" was the album that first turned me on to Van Halen and it was my favorite album for several years. "Somewhere in Time" was also my first Iron Maiden album.
However, I chose "Third Stage" by Boston, which also happened to be my first Boston album. Actually, that was probably the year I got into music in general, so there you go.

F@ck me someone voted for Turbo! Yeah alright it was me! It was a close battle between that, Peter Gabriel's So or Raised on Radio.

Some great choices on that list. You definitely need to get rid of ANYTHING with David Lee Roth's name on it, as the best of the year! My vote goes to "5150", as I thought it was Van Halen's greatest release, EVER! To have this great of an album, after replacing your lead singer is simply unheard of, by ANY band! Sammy Hagar is THE MAN!
John from Boston

I also voted BJ's Slippery When Wet. Actually this pole is the most difficult for me to decide on because there was so much activities in regards to rock this year in my opinion. I actually loved lots of the choices, Europe was awesome, Van Halen's 5150 was great - I was video taping from my skateboard as I was jamming down a Tokyo shopping center with 5150 dubbed onto the video. And Boston's Third Stage was another one of my favorite albums of that year along with Toto's Fahrenheit album.

Obsolutely. And yes, it was in large part because of Sammy.

Dude (or dudette) you actually managed to get BJ, the phrase slippery when wet and no doubt subcontiously mispelt poll as pole in the same post! Respect.

The energy that those guys put out on stage on the "5150" tour was simply amazing. Great album and great tour that year.

Turbo makes Bon Jovi's output appear like a testosterone fuelled beast of pure studliness* by comparison.
*The phrase 'testosterone fuelled beast of pure studliness' is a registered trademark of Manowar.

There are a few good tunes on "Turbo" and "Reckless" kicks almost as much ass as anything Priest has ever put out.

I know, I voted for Turbo. I love it even though many regard it as Priest's Raised on Radio! It seems everyone was experimenting that year! Out in the Cold and Locked In are great tracks.

How 5150 doesn't win this in a landslide has me scratching my head. The only band to replace an established singer and not miss a single beat...and do so with the first number 1 record the band has ever experienced is simply, well, unheard of...
To this day, it hasn't been done.

The title track to that album is amazing also. Next to "I'm the One" and "Panama", it's my favorite VH tune.

Tonight for the first time I actually watched and listened to Van Halen III on youtube. And after seeing and hearing it, I didn't miss anything. What was Van Halen thinking getting this guy? He's completely not made for the part both vocally and in stage performance. They should have worked hard to keep Sammy or kiss his ass trying to get him back. I'm nearly at a loss for words after watching this video.

Well, if it had been on here I would have voted for SURVIVOR'S "WHEN SECONDS COUNT."
But since it's not I voted for "RAISED ON RADIO."

Slippery When Wet is far and away the best choice. If you voted for something else you should have to take Drivers Ed with Susan Smith.

If it had been Journey's Frontiers up against When Seconds Count, then I would have voted for Frontiers. But unfortunately ROR was Journey's lightest album.
I love great music no matter how hard it Rocks or how light it may be, a great song is a great song.

How could you

off all people forget Stryper's To Hell With The Devil.
Only one bad song on there. Amazing album. So many songs on their rocked beyond belief and sent Stryper into arenas.
