Oy. The accent is heavier than I thought...I guess it won't be that way when he'll sing. However,I'm not so sure that he'll be doing any talking on the stage next year.
Other than that, yeah,he seems to be a nice guy. He's so happy now that he doesn't even know what hit him.

I love the guy's 'golly-gee' excitement. He seems cool to me. His accent doesn't seem that major to me. I've worked with a lot of people from Manilla and his accent is so much less than most people I know.
The "Chica Minute" thing was hilarious though...
If you listen to the interviewer, "Speech Therapy" is heard. Listen closely.

Speaking of accents Celine Dion does just fine and her French accent is pretty heavy at times especially when speaking English. For some reason it is much less noticable in her singing voice especially with a musical backing. That being said check out this acapella for an example of how her accent comes through at times prior to be being masked by the rest of the track. Fascinating stuff -

MANY singers have accents. The guy will be fine. It's the rest of the band we need to worry about...
I can't believe how much stuff they have on Dion's voice. I always think I add to much of that stuff, but she has a ton of effects on there. My biggest gripe with her is how she says her S's (Shh). Otherwise, killer voice.

You should hear Mariah Carey acapella then - reverb and delay all of the place, literally swimming and Usher has so much flanger on his voice he barely sounds human! I have hundreds of these things but sadly no Journey. I'll upload some later.

That's the way it seems to be with all singers pretty much, like British and Australian accents are not noticable while they are singing, but it's when they are just talking in normal conversation when you realize that they have an accent.
And speeking from my experiences, Arnel is the nicest guy you could ever meet. In all the years I've known him, he's never shown anger towards anyone or anything. Super nice guy and I'm glad his life long dream has come true for him.

Great example-
Spencer Davis Group. British Band. Singer sounds like Ray Charles.
If the guy wants the gig, he'll do what he needs to. I think that he'll be fine.
Like I said, I'm just worried the rest of the band will try and screw him.

Mentally or physically?.....or both.
Hey you never know these days. One day it's harmless pot and the next it's a hard core meth and powdered draino mix.

You know, say what you will about the situation, but you can't but feel happy for the guy. I mean really, he's been struggling to make it big and this is a dream come true for him.
His Accent is heavy as hell, but I really don't hear it much when he sings. No more so than I hear Phil Collins or Rod Stewart's accent.

His accent is definitely hevier than I had anticipated. However, I'll refrain from making any sort of decision until he performs a few shows with Journey. That's what rational/sane people do.

Where EXACTLY do you fit in the rational/sane people category then Dan?

I think the band will sound great with him.
I don't think that'll get me to change my opinion of them or buying more 'journey product', but I will definitely listen to this guy. Who knows, maybe HE will tire of the band's bs and have a healthy solo career. I like the guy's demeanor from what I've seen.

Just remember. He is in the Philippines talking to a Filipino reporter. That reporter asked the questions in taglish and he responded back the same way.
I contend that when he gets back to America, he will think more carefully about what to say and how to say it, unless of course he is talking to Filipinos in America, then it'll be easy for him to talk more taglish. Doing so though, won't set back his accent reduction though, it's like a switch that Filipinos kind of turn on or off when they need to. He'll soon have an english mode. I've seen it happen many-a-time to many filipinos.

And touring with Journey, and more specifically Neal, this is certain to increase.

Awww - he looks absolutely thrilled! Great smile, too. I know he has the voice.
Hopefully he uses Journey as a springboard to better things.
