Randy Jackson Biography

I don't know if anyone else caught the Biography on Randy Jackson this week, but it was pretty cool. It goes through his musical career, how he learned from old blues and jazz players down in Louisiana, and then how he came to work with Billy Cobham and Narada Michael Walden. There was a good segment on his days in Journey, which it sounds like he has a great affection for, and there were interviews about him from Steve Smith and Neal Schon. My favorite bit was him saying that one of his first jobs in A&R for Columbia was handling Steve Perry, after he had been in Journey with him.
If anyone is interested, it's been replaying quite a bit on the Biography channel this week, and is apparently available for streaming video at their site.

Journey should play on AI. This would show the world their new singer and allow Randy a chance to pick up the axe and jam. If Journey truly had the "monster" recording session that Shirley claims, let's hear one of the songs along with 2 classics on AI. I'm not sure they would even want this incarnation, but if so, they need to jump on this chance.

He's got a new album too, sorry if this has been said already...haven't looked around lately.

THis just reminded me of a very nice picture of Perry and Jackson standing together talking at a party a few years back. I want to say it was a post awards party given by Elton John. Post Academy perhaps?
Anyone save that picture??

this was about the same time Jackson went jamming with Schon at the Eric Clapton blues fest in Dallas.. i guess he was getting out of the AI scene for a bit..

Now THAT can only mean ONE thing.
He's coming back.
But even if he doesn't, I'm still happy as long as HE'S happy.
He owes nothing to anybody.
I'm grateful for all he's given us, even if he never puts anything else out.
Still, this makes me think he's getting ready.

I wonder IF Journey COULD be on AI without Perry.
He was Ross's fill in and also recorded After the Fall (By the way, why DID Randy record that instead of Ross??)
with the band on Frontiers. I can't believe that there'd be real good vibes between he and Ross. I THINK that Jackson and Perry were buds, but as for the rest of the band, who knows? I know that Jackson NEVER misses an opportunity to drop Perry's name into any conversation.
So is Michael Baird working at Denny's now, or what? Of ALL the choices for someone to replace Smith, THAT was the worst. I'd rather have Mickey Dolenz drumming for them than Baird.

He must look so old that his picture is hung up somewhere in 1892.
